Mother Nature held off her rain drops until long after the final checkered flag fell on the 2006 racing season at Quincy Raceways on Sunday night as two more Track Points Champions were crowned and three Season Championship Feature events were run.
Mark Burgtorf started the rain delayed Season Championship feature event for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models from the pole position and led all thirty laps until the checkered flag fell. Denny Woodworth settled into the second spot and stayed with Burgtorf until Jerry Weisenberger grabbed the runner up position on the eighth circuit. Weisenberger ran a strong race but was unable to catch Burgtorf and had to settle for second followed by Joey Gower in third, Mike Dyche in fourth and Ron Elbe in fifth. Burgtorf’s win was his thirteenth feature win in twenty two starts in all the late model events at Quincy this season. Burgtorf and Gower were the heat race winners with Weisenberger grabbing the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Robbie Reed drew the pole position for the 25 lap Miller Lite and dominated the event all the way to the checkered flag to take his first feature win of the season. Reed closed out the point’s season last week by taking the Track Points Championship title without winning a feature event during the season. Dave Wietholder scored second with Wyatt Lance in third, Henry DeLonjay in fourth and Brandon Savage in fifth. DeLonjay and Savage grabbed the heat race wins. Danny Lake took the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash Finale.
Steve Carlin started the Season Championship Feature event on the pole with Adam Birck on the outside of row one. Carlin took the lead at the drop of the green and held Birck off until Birck slipped by to grab the lead on lap twelve. Birck then cruised to the win followed by Carlin in second, Travis Booher in third, Rich Uppinghouse in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Carlin, Birck and Booher were the heat race winners. Carlin rode his second place finish to the Track Points Championship by eleven points over Birck.
James Leffew did all he could to take the Track Championship in the Hornet Division as he won both his heat and the Season Championship Feature event but it still was not enough to take the points lead away from Steven DeLonjay. DeLonjay managed to capture the Track Points Championship by a slim margin of two points over Leffew. DeLonjay scored second in the main event followed by Sarah Woodhurst in third, Levi Long in fourth and Bill Winkle in fifth.
