First event of the 2008 season Now in the WPMS record book

West Plains, MO (April 5, 2008) With warmer, dryer weather this week, drivers took advantage and a good field was present as the season opener sponsored by Barlow Expedited Service and Best Western Grand Villa actually took place. Last weekends rains left drivers as well as fans disappointed when it had to be called before it ever started.
This week saw 25 modified drivers take the green and run flag to flag without a single caution. Emerging as feature winner, Shawn Walsh of Ash Flat, AR, started 8th and worked his was through the field and by lap 18 he took the lead that he carried right to Victory Lane.
Brandon Ball of West Plains had to settle for second, followed by Joey Smith of Pomona, MO, Chris Piper of West Plains, Rustin Miller of Houston, MO, Jason Brigman and Matt Barry, both of West Plains, Jason Snodgrass of Mtn. Home, AR, Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, and Calvin Tribble of West Plains, rounded out the top 10.
Balance of the Modified field included: Kevin Collins and Bill Adams, both of West Plains, Scott Crigler of Alton, MO, Austin Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR, Fred Scarbrough of Koshkonong, MO, Carl Murphy of Caulfield, MO, Brian Judd of West Plains, Bobby Skinner of Moody, MO, Jerry Croney and Denny Dennison , both of West Plains, Chris Skinner of Moody, MO, Denny Tryon of West Plains, Kyle Berry of Poplar Bluff, MO, Carmon Vincent of Moody, MO and Robert Powers of Cambell, MO. One driver was DQ'd at the after event tech inspection.
Jeff North of Rogersville, MO, put his first feature win of the season in the Super Stock record book, he was followed by Derald Kelly of Birch Tree, Stan Ellison , Kevin Collins and Bobby Bryant, all of West Plains, Darren Fox of Mtn. Grove, MO, Andy Collins of West Plains, Bruce Sutterfield of Bono, AR, Will Love of Batesville, AR, and Carmon Vincent rounded out the top 10.
Blance of the Super Stock field included: Cody Kelly, Dee Kelly and Herman Kelly, all of Birch Tree, David Hendrix of Waynesville, Mo, Chris Jundersfeld of Pocahontas, AR and Jamel Korkis of Cave City, AR.
The Hobby Stock feature winner was Robert Williams of Van Buren, MO, followed by Mike Elliott of Ellsinore, MO, Dexter Frost and John Stiner, both of West Plains, and Shane HItt of Birch Tree, finished in the top 5.
Balance of the Hobby Stock field included: Brock Frost of Birch Tree, Greg Casey of Bertrand, MO, Jessie Shearin of West Plains, Korey Whitelock of Alton, MO, Brandon Holder of Mammoth Spring, David Medlock of West Plains, Richard Smith of Williford, AR, and Rick Cooper of Thornfield, MO.
Clifford Collins, II, of West Plains, won the Cruiser feature followed by Doug Lambert, Rhonda Gunter, John Zuchowski and Bill Harden, all of West Plains, Tyler Newcom of Hardy, AR, and Mark Doiron of West Plains, rounded out the Cruiser field.
The Youth Hobby Stock class had six driver register, but only four got to run the feature event as two were sidelined with mechanical problems. Taking the feature win was last year's champion, Ben Piper of West Plains, followed by Kyle Duke and Dakota Frost, both of West Plains and Kevin May of Pomona, rounded out the Youth field.
Next Saturday night, April 12, will see the Fastrack Late Model travelling series making their first appearance at West Plains Motor Speedway. Sponsoring the event will be Dillard-Fowlkes Motor Co., of Ash Flat, AR. A full points program for the weekly classes will also be on tap for the evening.
Gates will open at 5 p.m., hotlaps at 6:30 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. Adult admission for this special event will be $15, kids 7-11 $3, and those 6 & under are always free. Pit passes will be $30.
