For the first time in Illinois State Fair history the UMP Modified division has a race scheduled during the fair as the open wheel machines share the track with the USAC Silver Crown Series on Saturday August 21. 2010 marks the first time in two years that four race events will be conducted during the weekend of speed at the Illinois State Fair.

The modified machines were a staple of the Illinois Fall Nationals held at the fairgrounds in September and race fans saw exciting competition. No less is expected for the second leg of the modified 'triple crown' at Springfield with many cars from throughout Central Illinois expected. NASCAR star Ken Schrader won the first leg, the 20-mile Indyana Classic held in May at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in dominating fashion leading the entire way. It is unknown at press time if Schrader will run the inaugural "Illini Dash" at Springfield but others expected are Steve Adams of Humboldt, Curt Rhodes of Taylorville and Jeff Leka of Buffalo. Leka and Rhodes are former winners of modified events on the Springfield Mile.
