(Warrensburg) Another night of great dirt racing action at Central Missouri Speedway for the Comfort Inn Night at the races along with a 305 Sprint Special on Saturday night. Over eighty drivers showed the crowd some spectacular side by side racing in all divisions and the crowd enjoyed every minute of it.

Josh Fisher treated the fans to his second 305 Sprint feature win of the weekend after a victory at Lebanon on Friday night. The Limited Late Model race proved to be one of the highlights of the evening when Dave Meyer battled with Owen Evinger to take his first feature win of the season. Dennis Walrath continued with a dominant win for his second Mighty Modified race in a row. In the Street Stock division, we had another good run from Gary Hemme when he also drove to his second feature win of the year. In the B-Modified class, Donald Danner won the race event with his first victory in the new CMS class.

The Limited Late Model race proved to be one of the best races of the evening when Dave Meyer battled back and forth with last weeks winner Owen Evinger. Meyer finally passed Evinger on the high side after several attempts both high and low around the track. As Meyer passed him the final time, Evinger spun out in turn four and went on to finish sixth. The crowd went crazy as the popular driver from Concordia pulled into victory lane for his first Late Model trophy this year. Steven Clancy and Brett Rollert both had a nice run into second and third place with Clancy starting from the outside position on row two.

Jonathan Cornell kept the pressure on Fisher, especially early in the feature. Tom McGarry also showed the young guns how to get it done with a strong second place run after passing Cornell. The other young driver running the race, Zack Goulden won his first 305 Sprint feature last season at CMS. Zack is the son of Bobby Goulden who previously ran Grand Nationals at Lakeside.

The usually wild Street Stock race actually started without any cautions until several late in the race. Gary Hemme once again started up front and ran strong on the high side most of the night. Hemme was pressured by Jay Lyle and Nathan Himes, but gained the advantage when they spun off the track in turn two with their cars stuck together on lap fourteen. Later Himes had a scary flip and ended up wrecking into some tires on the front straight away. Tammy Korff had another tough finish when her engine developed problems on lap one after starting in row three. Mark Carter looked steady with his new engine and finished in second after several passing Thomas Roberts on lap 14. Jimmy Ngo also finished a solid fourth just behind the leaders after a strong run in his heat race.

Don Danner won his first B- Modified feature of the year in the Dean Wille owned car. Wayne Stevens finished behind him in second after some early challenges to Danner’s lead. Greg Marrant’s pit crew put in a great effort to place his car back on the track for the feature after hitting the front wall head on during his heat race. This is a new class of cars for CMS so drivers can race in an entry level modified before moving up to the Mighty Modified class.

The Mighty Modifieds started with Jake Richards and Dennis Walrath on the front row of the feature event. Walrath grabbed the first lap lead but Richards pressured him early on. Walrath again maintained a steady line on the smooth dirt surface and stayed out front for the rest of the race. Jim Moody also showed an early run to the front, but had to drop out for mechanical problems.

The most impressive drive of the night was Chad Lyle’s run starting from sixteenth place on row eight to finishing an amazing second place. He picked off cars on each lap as he drove to the front. He finally battled with Joe Bradshaw and Richards for several laps before taking the spot with Bradshaw finishing behind him in third.

Another spectacular wreck on the night involved Charlie Ebert and Buddy Benedict when they tangled in turn four with both cars flipping over and landing upside down. The Benedict car was destroyed and Ebert’s machine had a lot of damage as well. Fortunately, both drivers were ok after being pulled out from their over-turned cars. We hope to see them back to the track in the near future.
