Tulsa, Oklahoma | 4/20/13 – A field of 156 entries made their way to Port City Raceway last night as the third points race of 2014 kicked off. The Easter eve action saw a staggering amount of 21 heat races, nine B-Mains, and six feature events tackle the tricky high banked 1/8[sup]th[/sup] mile.
Now through three point races and seven total events, Port City has reeled in a stellar average car count of 130.7 on a weekly basis. Last night’s action tied the current record of 2014 as the first point’s race of the year also gathered in 156 entries. Car Counts are only expected to rise as the 2014 schedule hits its peak and summer closes in.
Action will resume at the Tulsa, Oklahoma track next weekend as point racing will once again be in place. The following weekend of May 2[sup]nd[/sup] and 3[sup]rd[/sup] will see the always exciting 14[sup]th[/sup] annual Non-Wing Nationals make its return. All four divisions of Jr. Sprints, Restricted, Stock, and Outlaw will all go wingless for two night of action packed micro racing.
JR. SPRINTS!
Nineteen Jr. Sprints hauled to Port City last night to partake in a three heat, b-main program. Jake Nail, who was carrying in a three race win streak was the driver to beat, but tonight a new victor would be crowned. Noah Gass, J Brady Hilton, and Kale Drake all claimed heat race action as weekly standouts of Nail, Joey Gray, Preston Schuelen, and Grayson Gaddy all had to run through the B-Main.
The outside pole sitter of Baron Silva immediately shot to the point and took command of the field during the 20-lap feature. Noah Gass in his #25 quickly followed Silva into the runner up position and started his hunt on the race leader. Connor Lee and Hank Davis rapidly moved to third and fourth, but could make up no further ground as the battle out front between Gass and Silva heated up.
As lap traffic came into play near the end of the feature Gass was all over Silva for the lead. As the five to go signal was shown it was Gass who rocketed by Silva and shot to the race lead. He would bob and weave throughout lap traffic while defending his lead as the young Noah Gass claimed his first victory of 2014! Baron Silva would settle for second, Connor Lee stormed to third, Hank Davis earned hard charger while charging from 11[sup]th[/sup] to fourth, and Shawn Mahaffey rounded out the top five.

A stacked A-Class division saw 34 cars hit the track for the third point’s race, as four heat races and two B-Mains lined up the car 16 car feature. The A-Class feature event would prove to be one of the more exciting races on the night with both lines around the tires and on the cushion coming into play. Trenton Borchers, Raymond Moore, Brittany Yarwood, and Jase Martin won heat races as point leader Kris Carroll and Chris Andrews won B-Mains.
The feature got off to a rocky start as a transponder error forced all cars off and back on the racing surface. As soon as the green flag dropped it was Broken Arrow native of Rodney Bippus who jumped to the early lead. A few early yellows halted the action, but nothing could slow the #81 Outlaw Wings entry of Frank Flud. Flud, charging from his 11[sup]th[/sup] place starting position quickly bolted through the field and into the top five.
Shortly before the halfway mark Flud was able to power around Bippus using the cushion and fly away from the field. Meanwhile near mid-pack it was an intense battle from third to eight with almost four rows of side by side racing for position. The duo of Bippus and young Austin Lambert were leading the charge of many heavy hitters like Jordan Herrman, Jason Tracy, and Chris Andrews.
As the laps continued to tick down it was Frank Flud who was putting the hotel keys on the counter and checking out, as the Pryor native walked away to claim his fourth A-Class victory of the year! Meanwhile Noah Harris was pulling off an incredible drive through the field from his 14[sup]th[/sup] place starting position and found himself on the podium in the closing laps.

The Non-Wing division also saw another great count of 34 entries running wingless, all getting some much needed practice in for the 14[sup]th[/sup] annual Non-Wing Nationals in two weeks. Four heat races would be claimed by Travis Crawford, Chris Cochran, Austin Helt, and Trenton Borchers as Hunter Fischer and Chris Andrews won B-Main action.
The #47 of Austin Helt grabbed the early lead as Trenton Borchers quickly followed. The always monstrous Port City curb atop the 1/8[sup]th[/sup] mile would be the biggest factor all race long, as the powerful cushion took advantage of drivers left and right. Just a short eight laps in Chris Cochran guided his Concept Chassis #7c from seventh into the race lead around Helt.
A pack of yellows would haunt the race after the halfway point allowing the field to be bunched up time after time. As soon as Jarrett Crouch slipped on by into 2[sup]nd[/sup] in his Cagle Motorsports #89, the field from third back began putting on one crazy show with drivers bouncing off of the cushion and even themselves.
One final yellow would give Crouch a shot at Cochran, but the McLoud native would hold strong guiding his #7c to Port City victory lane for the second time this season. Jarrett Crouch came home with a charge from tenth to second, Jason Tracy came from 11[sup]th[/sup] to finish 3[sup]rd[/sup], Trenton Borchers dropped back to finish fourth, and Chris Andrews drove from 14[sup]th[/sup] to 5[sup]th[/sup] as he rounded out the top five.

The Sportsman division boasted a count of 29 entries as another four heat, two B-Main program was in the lineup. Craig Carroll would continue his hot streak and prove just why he is the defending and current point leader. Taylor Garrison, Ricky Glover Sr, Brandon Henson, and Luke Tipton won heat races while Taylor Peterson and Danny Clum claimed B-Main action. What followed preliminary action would be a crazy and wild feature event.
Collinsville native, Blayke Storm took command of the field in his #313 machine right from the start. Carroll had already began his drive through the field while moving into the top five before halfway. David Doss after shortly claiming second would power around Storm and claim the race lead. While Doss was creating a sizable advantage one small yellow destroyed all his work and tightened the field up.
On the ensuing restart as Doss was catching lap traffic and Carroll moved into second, pure mayhem broke loose. Doss would get into the back of lap car, stalling his #82 which would then lead Ethan Pruitt who was running third to be collected with Doss all while Carroll stormed into the lead. The final restart would prove nothing different as Carroll claimed his second feature of the season. Blayke Storm held on to finish second, Taylor Garrison grabbed third, Ricky Glover Sr charged from 11[sup]th[/sup] to fourth, and Ken Simmons rounded out the top five.

The winged Outlaws saw 19 cars battle the track last night throughout a three heat, B-Main program. Again all eyes would be on Frank Flud who was coming off of his first Outlaw victory of the season. Chris Andrews, Flud, and Jeff Frey picked up heat race wins while Jason Tracy earned the B-Main victory.
Pole sitter of Adrian Cobbs in his #44 machine jumped to the early lead with Tulsa native Chris Andrews quickly in pursuit. The seventh circuit would see Andrews power his #8 Sawyer Chassis around Cobbs using the cushion to his advantage. Jake Rosario brought his #92 Voyager Racing machine into third, but just didn’t have anything for Andrews.
Shortly after halfway Frank Flud really kicked into high gear as his Ross Racing #81 entry rocketed past Rosario into second and begin to stalk down Andrews. Lap after lap Flud cut down the huge margin Andrews had built up and with five to go had the #8 in his sights. Finally with two laps to go while rolling right around the infield tires Flud was able to sneak under Andrews and protect his lead.
Frank Flud would easily hold off the fight as he charged from 12[sup]th[/sup] to claim his second Outlaw win of the season. Chris Andrews would settle for a heartbreaking second, Jake Rosario claimed third, Ryan Ratliff earned fourth, and Jeff Frey drove from 11[sup]th[/sup] to fourth.

Action will resume at the Tulsa, Oklahoma track next weekend as point racing will once again be in place. The following weekend of May 2[sup]nd[/sup] and 3[sup]rd[/sup] will see the always exciting 14[sup]th[/sup] annual Non-Wing Nationals make its return. All four divisions of Jr. Sprints, Restricted, Stock, and Outlaw will all go wingless for two night of action packed micro racing.
General admission for adults is $10, kids 6-12 and senior citizens are $6, kids under five get in free, and pit passes are $25.
