COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Feb. 7) – A class already familiar to fans at CJ Speedway will be sanc¬tioned by IMCA in 2011.
Mach-1 Sport Compacts are new to Friday night shows, taking the place of a similar four cylinder division.
“We had thought about sanctioning last year. The only difference between the IMCA class and ours was the tire rule,” said CJ co-promoter Brian Tipps. “After IMCA changed their rule so tire sizes don’t have to match front to rear in 2011, we decided to sanction.”
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars return to weekly programs at Columbus Junction. Opening night is sched¬uled for April 29, with weekly programs continuing through Sept. 2.
“One of the things I like best about Sport Compacts is the price to build one,” Tipps said. “I’ve built sev¬eral on my own and didn’t have $800-$900 in any of them. The price is definitely right.”
Tipps also noted that the Louisa County Fair Board had already addressed several of the drain¬age issues that surfaced during the wet 2010 season. Several related projects are in the works for when spring weather permits.
