Fuel Pump Problems

ModRacer_1S

got dirt?
I've got fuel problems...started off everything worked okay was getting fuel to 2bbl carb no problem using a big Holley fuel pump with 1'' braided fuel line from carb to fuel cell. Then it seemed the pump lost prime, pump was older and sat a while so thought maybe it dried out....replaced with brand new Holley and same thing. Checked line it is clear, filter is clear, if you dump gas into carb and get it started it will pick up prime and squirt fuel, will work for a while sometimes, and then just quit and won't get any fuel. Don't know what else to try, thought maybe fuel cell isnt venting like it should (32 gal. cell) but not sure. Any suggestions??? Thanks

Ive ran into a problem with bad venting before. Make a line straight off fuel pump to a gas can..and run..see if any better. And yea..ck to see fuel filter in right..seen alot of people put them in backwards..easyt to do.

We have tried running a direct line from pump to can of gas, didn't work, still won't pump. Someone else mentioned something about the stroke in the pump may be wrong??? I don't know what else to try....someone else thought that the carb might be bad?????

Fuel pick up problem

I had the same thing happen in the garage last night. My problem was on an alky 4 barrel. The float had collapsed in the bowl. The car would run for a while until the bowl ran out of fuel. Then it wouldn't start again until I left it set for a while.

Yeah, but his problem is the pump isn't pumping at all. No fuel in the line between the pump and carb. One silly question, did you use a bolt in the block to hold the rod up to the cam while you installed it? If so, the pump rod went down, and stayed..Good Luck

I was told that I possibly have a hole in my braided fuel line somewhere....causing it to lose prime? Also when it runs sometimes fuel bubbles and shoots out of the carb as though it is getting to much air to it.......any thoughts??????

Check the cam and make sure you didn't wear the lobe out that the fuel pump rod rides on. Just take the pump off and use a screwdriver to hold the rod tight and have someone turn the motor over and see if it goes in and out.

Is this thing on alky ???? if it is and you don't have an alky specific fuel pump it'll kill the fuel pump in about 5 minutes or less run time gauranteed......

This isn't rocket science. You checked the filter? Your not running any kind of candy *** stock like fuel line because if you are it wont work, and if it does it will get hot. You said you tried a different pump, now try a different carb, I've got one I would sell for $125 that I know works. I would even come put it on and see what the hell is going on.

I dont think the fuel push rod was bumped all the way back when we installed the pump, causing it to catch then miss and lock down. Bumped the fuel rod back as far as it would go, pump went on without a problem, and is working fine...Sometimes it's the little things that get over looked. LOL Thanks for everyone's help in trying to fix it. Chad
