With only a handful of weeks left in the 2004 racing season drivers and crews were looking to make their way to the front as Central Missouri Speedway kicked off another exciting night of action.

The Mighty Modified division has seen battles for the top spot throughout the 2004 season, but what was witnessed could be classified as a war and when the smoke had settled points leader Gary Blackburn Jr. came out on top and wheeled his way into the winner's circle. The initial green flag saw a multi-car pileup on the front stretch, but once the racing resumed there was action all the way around the 3/8 mile high banks. Chad Lyle attempted to jump to the front from his pole position, but Blackburn wouldn't let him get away as the pair battled side by side for the first three laps for the top spot while Tim Karrick and Dave Meyer ran in formation for the third position right behind them. Lap four saw Blackburn finally get the run that he needed as he moved around Lyle while Karrick also made a move that put him in the second spot. The leaders began to encounter lapped traffic on lap seven and as they raced through the backmarkers on lap nine the machines of Blackburn, Lyle, Karrick, and fourth running Lance Kobush were nose to tail. Kobush appeared to be one of the fastest machines on the track as he moved past Karrick for third on lap eleven and motored around Lyle for second on lap fifteen. The only caution of the event came on lap eighteen as officials cleared debris in turn four and that set up a shootout to the end. Kobush, Karrick, and Lyle worked around a lapped car in an attempt to chase down leader Blackburn, but it wasn't to be as he held on for the final two laps and crossed the line for his fifth Mighty Modified win of the year. Kobush, Lyle, Karrick and Dave Meyer rounded out the top five at the stripe. Blackburn, Lyle, Meyer, and Karrick were joined by Charles Ebert in celebrating the five heat race wins on the evening.

Ashland, MO's Virgil Jeffery made his second trip to Central Missouri Speedway another good night as he was able to work his way to the front and come home with another win. On the start of the race last week's feature winner Ryan Lovercamp quickly moved to the point and opened up a five car length advantage over his closest pursuers until the yellow waved for debris with three laps in the books. Lovercamp was able to hold his lead as the field once again raced into turn one only to be slowed two laps later for the disabled machine of Shawn Williams who had suffered a flat right rear tire. Back to green and the caution flew one lap later as the machines of Josh Reisdorph, Jim Wilson, and Lance Elwell made contact and spun in turn three. As the leaders took the yellow flag Lovercamp slowed, but second running Kevin Coyne was unable to avoid contact sending the leader into a spin on the backstretch. Under track rules Lovercamp was forced to go to the rear of the field and officials also sent Coyne to the back for rough driving which put Jeffery at the front of the pack as the green flew once again. With a clear track ahead of him Jeffery motored away and raced under the checkered flag by nearly 1/2 lap at the end of the fifteen lap affair. Coyne worked his way back up through the field to secure the second spot while Steve Elwell, Mike Brockert, and Jim Wilson completed the top five. Earlier in the evening Lovercamp and Derek Nevels secured heat race wins.

Marc Carter has been a dominant force throughout Central Missouri in 2004 and he added to his win total by garnering his eight win of the season in the Street Stock division. The field took the green flag and Bob King powered from the pole into the top spot until the caution flew with one lap down for the disabled machine of Donald Dannar in turn four. On the restart Carter motored past King to take over the number one position. Once out front Carter began to pull away from the field and began to close on lapped traffic until a lap six yellow flew that slowed the field. The green replaced the yellow for two laps until it flew again with eight laps down for debris on the track. As the front runners took the yellow Fred King Jr. and Dave Bentlage came together forcing Bentlage into the inside tires in turn one causing his car to slowly roll over onto it's top. Bentlage emerged unscathed, but done for the evening and officials sent F. King to the pits for the incident. Under green once again and Carter wasn't about to let up as he opened a six car length advantage over the field within two laps and worked his way into lapped traffic once again on lap fourteen. As Carter motored under the checkered flag he took the win by twelve car lengths over second place Bob King. Wayne Stevens, Cole Wimmer, and Bryant Moyer completed the top five at the line. Carter was joined by Bob King and Fred King Jr. in taking heat race wins on the evening.
