MADISON, Ill. - In today's society, few jobs are more dangerous than
those of police officer and firefighter. The brave men and women of our
nation's police and fire departments risk their lives daily to protect
and serve the communities in which they are based. Both organizations
are equally important.

But who's the fastest?

In an effort to find the answer, Gateway International Raceway is
hosting its inaugural Guns and Hoses race on its quarter-mile drag strip
Tuesday, Sept. 11. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing kicking off at 6 p.m.
The race format is dial-in handicapped bracket and a class for
beginners will be taught by ESPN Racing Analyst Bret Kepner at 5:15 p.m. The
winner of the event will be awarded the Mayor John Hamm Trophy.

"We appreciate what these folks do for us and our communities," GIR
Vice President and General Manager Lenny Batycki said, "and this is our
way of letting them not only experience what it's like to race on our
NHRA-licensed dragstrip, but to have some fun with this good-natured
rivalry. On Tuesday night, we're going to find out who the real first
responder is."

In addition to the Guns and Hoses event, the regular Tuesday night
street test and tune will take place. Entry fees for the event are $ 20 for
racers, $ 10 for adults, and kids 12 and under and all first
responders get in free. For more information on this event as well as the other
races at GIR, visit GatewayRaceway.com.
