MADISON, Ill. - From prep sports to professional, if it's happening in
the St. Louis area, Randy Gardner and News 20 are there covering it.
Friday Aug. 31 at Gateway International Raceway, Gardner, the host of
"PrimeTime Sports," will cover the ARCA RE/MAX Series from a special
vantage point as he will be in the flag stand as the honorary starter for
the ARCA RE/MAX 150.

A devoted race fan, Gardner received the invitation as he interviewed
GIR Vice President and General Manager Lenny Batycki during this week's
"PrimeTime Sports."

"I was completely suprised and honored when Lenny asked me to be the
honary starter of the ARCA RE/MAX 150," Gardner said. "He started off by
saying, 'I want to ask you a question about the upcoming race,' and I
replied, 'Do I get to drive in it?' Then he asked the question. For me,
the next best thing to driving in the race is being the honorary
starter."

Batycki said he is pleased to have Gardner onboard for the event.
"Randy is one of those guys who genuinely loves his job and it shows," he
said. "Regardless of what sport he's covering, his passion comes through
and it's obvious that he loves motorsports considering all the great
coverage he's provided in this area."

Gardner joins the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Ken Roberts as pre-race
VIPs for the ARCA RE/MAX 150. It was announced earlier this week that
Roberts will give the command to the drivers to start their engines as the
grand marshall.
