CARTERSVILLE, GA – Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL has joined the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for 2008, and will also host a $5,000-to-win 75-lap NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event on October 10-11. Drivers in the Green Valley Speedway Crate Late Model Division will compete for both Track and Regional point funds.

“Track owner Dennis Harker has made wholesale improvements to Green Valley Speedway, and we’re excited to have the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series involved with Green Valley Speedway,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “We’re also excited to have the opportunity to showcase our National Touring Series at Green Valley Speedway in October.”

Under the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanction, drivers at Green Valley Speedway will be eligible not only to compete for a Track point fund, but also a Regional point fund using their 16 best finishes during the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season from March 28, 2008 through September 28, 2008.

In addition, the top six drivers in the Green Valley Speedway Crate Late Model Division point standings, excluding any top six Regional point drivers, will be invited to the 3rd Annual Crate Racin’ USA Fall Nationals Invitational Race at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 28, 2008. The Green Valley Speedway Track Champion will also be eligible to compete in the Race of Champions, and top six Regional point drivers will compete in the Race of Regions.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be a part of the David Haire Memorial Top Guns Tournament at Green Valley Speedway on October 10-11. The late David Haire was a lone time fan at Green Valley Speedway who always parked in Trackside Parking place number one.

Track owner Dennis Harker said he will be looking forward to seeing his friend and 2007 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA competing at Green Valley Speedway in 2008.

“We’re looking forward to our involvement with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, and the Weekly Racing Series, as Chip Brindle is a good friend of mine, and he has always been most positive about the series,” Harker said. “I think the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will help our car count with its consistency in the rules which makes things easier for both the competitors and our officials.”

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series and the Weekly Racing Series feature dirt late models powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engine that are built and sealed at the GM factory to prevent any expensive modifications, and are shipped and made available at GM dealers nationwide.

The 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine can be purchased for right at $5,000, and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine can be purchased for right at $3,000. The GM Performance 602 Crate Engine also receives a 150-pound weight break and a one inch larger carburetor spacer over the 604 engine.
