Inside Line Promotions - LEXINGTON, Tenn. (Aug. 26, 2014) - Brandon Hanks enjoyed his best weekend of the season, which happened to be close enough to his hometown where family could join in the fun.
"Two top 10s with the ASCS National Tour in one weekend, I'm very, very pleased with how things went," he said.
Hanks opened the weekend last Thursday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Midsouth Showdown with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. He led the distance of his heat race to capture his seventh heat victory of the year. It was also enough to get him into the feature redraw.
"We had a really good car in the heat race," he said. "It was pretty much perfect. We aren't too good at those redraws though. I seem to draw worse than a five every time."
Hanks pulled the highest number - eight - during the random draw, which lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the 40-lap main event.
"The track actually got better and faster as the night went on," he said. "My car kept getting tighter and tighter. I knew we were going to be around there somewhere when we started. The car was so tight it'd push up to the wall, but we managed to hang on."
Hanks finished with a seventh-place result, which was his best ASCS National Tour finish of the season and tied his best career result with the series.
The team tackled Lexington 104 Speedway on Friday.
"Lexington was pretty new to me," he said. "Last year I only got to run two laps and had a parts failure. I went into that race pretending that I'd never been there before. It was one lane, go as fast as you can around the top in the heat race. If you didn't pass anybody on the start you just didn't pass anybody."
Hanks advanced from sixth to fifth place in his heat race, which started him 13[sup]th[/sup] in the main event.
"We were able to maneuver a little bit in the feature," he said. "We passed a few on the start and we got strung out. It was a track-position race. It was still fun though. We tried some things with the car to get some more downforce. I think we figured something out that night that will work on slick tracks."
Hanks secured his 13[sup]th[/sup] top 10 of the season with a ninth-place finish.
