Lincoln, Ill. (May 15) – Brazil, Indiana’s Doug Heck rode the cushion to his Heat Race win and held off a three-wide runner-up battle to collect the $700 Outlaw Wingless Sprint Car 20-lap Feature prize. Heck survived a late restart, holding off a stiff outside challenge from Tommy Rockwell. Rockwell then had to deal with the rest of the pack as current points leader Bret Tripplett came up a few feet short of second. A. J. Bruns rebounded from a Friday-night flip to come home in fourth, while Allen Gillis wound up fifth. Gillis, Heck, and Tripplett topped the Heat Races amongst the 23-car field. Bill Waite, Jr. owned the Consolation Race.
After going winless in his inaugural championship season, Mason City’s Brian Lynn found Lincoln Speedway victory lane for the first time in the caution-free UMP Modified main. Lynn worked from the sixth starting spot to get by early leader Kelly Kovski to score the win. Vince Cooper ended his first Lincoln appearance in second. Kovski, Jeff Leka, and Wendell Zulauf, Jr. finished in the top five. Cooper, Kovski, and Todd Kirkland won in Heat Race action. Jeff Ray won the Consolation Race.
Steve Ewing held off defending champion Jim Quinn to earn his first Lincoln Street Stock Feature win. Ewing led the majority of the 15-lap distance in his Ewing Auto Sales-sponsored Street Stock. Behind Ewing and Quinn were Jeremy Nichols, points leader Larry Russell, Jr., and fourteenth-starting Kevin Skelton. Russell, Jr., Ewing, and Terry Miller scored Heat Race wins. Lance Johnson topped the Consolation Race.
J. R. Eskew swept Wild Thing competition after leading all fifteen feature laps in an event that was slowed by two red flags. Zach Mills and Jeremy Nichols were unhurt in separate rollovers. Eskew started on the pole and never looked back to score his second career Lincoln win. Matt Turley, Bob Sanders, Damon Jones, and Abe Helfand followed Eskew across the line. Eskew, Elmer Well, Turley, and Jones won the four Heat Races. Tim Earl and Shane Garrison earned Consolation wins.
The first Central Illinois Shootout will roll off next weekend. The Steel Block ONLY Late Model feature will be 40-laps and the top five in weekend points from Spoon River Speedway and Lincoln will be eligible for an extra $1000 points fund. Filling the car will be UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Wild Things. Grandstand admission is $12.00 for Adults and those 11 and under will be admitted Free. Pit Passes are $25.00.
