Here's a thought

Here's a thought for a really economical entry level class. Why not run Hornets? For those that dont know what a hornet is, it is a 4 cylinder stock car or truck, front or rear wheel drive, any foreign or domestic make. Basically you strip it out and put a cage in it. This class is successful in many of the northern area tracks (st louis area). You could buy the car and get on the track for about $500. This class produces the cheap way to race, the thrills spills crashes and rollovers that most of the fans love to see (You wont admit it but you know you do!). These cars are sitting everywhere. so there is always a source of new cars. Print up a simple rule book start them about June 15 to give everyone a chance to get something ready. I think you'll be surprised with the results. Anyway, before you start flaming this idea just give it some thought.

hornets, wanabees

will they run for trophy's and would you build one Joe Meyer just a thought

Hornets

This would be a 4 cylinder class, front wheel drive only, stock, efi, carb, throttle body, computer, any compact car. We need to see if anybody is interested in this class, then I will post the rules. But it will be stock. And will they run for trophy's, top five will receive trophy's post or call Joe Meyer 573-225-8375 THIS CLASS MUST BE NEAT LOOKING, NO JUNK PROMOTER IS INTERESTED BUT NEED AT LEAST 18 CARS WILL DETERMINE AGE LEVEL WHEN HE TALKS TO THE INSURANCE PEOPLE LET'S SEE JUST HOW MANY GUY'S, GAL'S, AND KID's ARE INTERESTED

Danny Little come up with this idea, only he wanted rear wheel drive, don't think that will work. front wheel drive is more interesting. Also he stated to start the class in mid june. This will work fine, gives everybody a chance to decide and build one Thanks

::front or rear wheel drive,::

If you go back and read the original post, it says front or rear wheel drive. I know what works and I can spot a trend when I see one. THe old days of pure stock racing are over. Look whats passing for pure stock now. There just arent many more chevelle's and monte carlos and such lying around. There is no outlet for the entry level economy racer to get a car on the track anymore. I just thought I'd pass along my insight and idea. I am not saying it would even work, it was just a thought. But my thoughts are it will work LOL. Would I build one? I dont have to we've got one. By the way its front wheel drive. I've done a little promoting in the past and have had success. But nothing like youre trying to do here reopening benton. Like I said before I am really pulling for benton to be successful. I am already commited to running Fredericktown but there is no reason why we couldnt come to benton quite a few nights with just a fun car. I'd like for my kids to start there. If you want more info on them check out the other tracks links on this forum. They all run them.

What is this deal about just giving away a trophy. I realize it's just a for fun class, but at least give some gas money. It doesn't have to be much, but I guarentee you that pit prices will be exactly the same for these guys as it is for some guy running a sprint car where all the money is given.... Don't start out treating one class like trash and things will be a lot better off even if it is a starter class....

hornets

Theres were all suggestions,was not ment to offend anyone, If we all try to work together just maybe we can put a class together. It just takes so much more time and money to do it. And just starting up the track is a project in its own. The cost of running 4 classes is unbelievable, just ask any promoter. I will check into the other posts and see what they run and how they pay, again thanks for all of your suggestions and I will post something later

I dont feel obligated to answer questions concerning the Benton track, but since I started this thread I'll answer this one for you. the price of the pit pass is the same for everyone whether they are running a car or not. It costs the guy that comes in as a spectator the same as the guy running a sprint car. there is no entry fee to race. Also the guy running a sprint car is making about a thousand to win on I'll guess here about a fifty thousand dollar investment. how much you think it should pay for a five hundred dollar car? Im not being mean just answering your question.

I think running hornets,maybe not every night but a couple of times a month and see how things go would be interesting. And not only the young racers like this class but even older racers. By the way trophies are pretty cool you cant put a twenty dollar bill on a book shelf and make it look very good! Besides if you are in this level of racing you are simply wanting to have a real good "cheap" time
