highland infield officials.....

i was just wondering why there isnt 2 guys at each corner 1&2,and 3&4....gauntly #21 caught on fire and there was no 1 in 1&2 when he was on fire so they had to run across the infield and put the fire out....i think that is a problem..........he could of got hurt but luckily didnt....just wondering why there wasnt any 1 in the corner at the time.....i have noticed that there hasnt been any 1 at that corner in a couple of weeks.....thought you were supposed to have 1 or even 2 guys at each corner just incase somthing happend which it did last sat night 8-14-04.....any info would help

well i think they should be a little more worried about whats goin on around the track then about supper........eat b4 ya go or get sumthing b4 the races start or at intermission!!

I totally agree. the same thing happened the week before with I believe Ellison in the mods. he caught fire and they had to run from the middle of the track to the turn with the extinguisher...

The fire was put out in both cases. The officals stand in a safe area so they are not run over by cars flying through the infield when they spin out. Tell me the firemen are standing in your front yard should your house catch fire? They do the best job possible in a safe manner for everyone!!!

racey8..........yea the fires were put out but could of been a lot worse if they didnt get there in time.....safety is an issue but they know how to get out of the way..also

I think the point trying to be made is there was always a corner man in 1-2 and one in 3-4 and now lately 3-4 is being unprotected the drivers come to the corners when they r in trouble and its dangerous for there to be no corner man in 3-4 never was an issue be4 so it shouldn't be now!! So the point is we need a 3-4 corner man actually in 3-4 and not in the middle of the infield!!

The cornermen wouldn't be expected to carry an extinguisher with them, would they? So they would have to run to the center, pick one up, and then run back. I think they just need to be where they can see what is going on, in thier corner. If the best, most safe, compromise of a place is the center, then so be it.

the fire extinguisher is already in the corners on the tires i just think it would be safer if the cornerman was already there like they used to be then instead of having to run to the corner from the infield always was 1 there be4 and they were always safe never had any problems be4 its just we have had 2 incidents where the drivers needed that fire put out immediatly and it only takes a second or 2 for the situation to be alot more worse the few seconds it takes for the corner man to run to the corner could very well make a difference in a bad situation is all im saying!!! So yes it does matter!!

bubbles 05, I think you mean turns 1 & 2. With the exception of last week, Todd Isaak is always in 3-4, but Greg Frank, cornerman for 1-2, is usually standing right next to the scorer's booth. I'm sure it is for safety reasons.

Sorry I stand where I stand for safety reasons, I have 2 fire extinguishers within 5 feet from me and also another located in the corner. If the fire was on the front stretch and everyone was in the corners then WHAT? I feel Im in the best place located in the center of the track to go in any direction in case of anything. Hope this clears any concerns.

Thank You
Franko
