Highland pay cut?

Highland didnt have no where near these issues 3 or 4 years ago when they had the sport compacts/ hornet class here. They put more fans old and young in the stands and were only getting 100 bucks a night. I honestly told alot of people this was gonna happen because they added 2 classes to there program that noone cares to watch or even knows anyone in them and paid them alot more. I really dont want highland to close because they can put on good shows from time to time and my family loves goin there. So I say bring them back and give that a shot. You will bring the high school kids back and the cost for these cars is way cheaper than all other classes.

I think Big Money Teams killed this sport. People just cant afford to compete period. Big Money Teams Hide there Race Cars in enclosed trailers to where it hurts getting new fans because people don't know whats in them, Then the others racers want to be cool to and they now use enclosed haulers....not helping getting fans that way but they don't think so. Then after you go a few times you can predict the outcome of who wins follow the leader....Final thought is after watching these southern tracks pay 1000.00 to win for street stocks and pure stocks and seeing people filling there stands as if it were the WOO AT i55 made me ask many people down here why and the answer I get is they like race cars to look like Stock vehicles and the competition is close. Don't get me wrong though car counts down here are down to and I think its caused by having the fastest cars start in the front and work there way back to the slowest making it a follow the leader race.

I am guilty of the box trailer. I think your right about the hornet class too. More cars more fans. The trailer is nice to have though it gets old loading and unloading every weekend and keeps the car dry. When I build another car I will try to get a wrap on it where it looks like the car sitting inside.

Yea they should get rid of those damn winged go karts. They can only race around the tires and the flagman can't see them coming off of turn 4.

I don't think they cheat for Zobrist but I do think he and his family help keep the place going there great supporters of highland from what I can tell when I come

Maybe Highland needs to put on more big shows instead of just a weekly show. Look at the crowd they had for the SN show. Tri -City has big Lucas Oil Shows, Mod-Mania and the place is always packed. Don't want any local track to close but there is no promoting. Sorry to say but Highland has run off a lot of the top drivers because of there favoritism, and it shows. .JMO. But when you loose your area top competitors you loose their fans.

I was a paying customer Saturday night, I could not believe how empty the stands were. I think there are so many factors that it will be hard to find a solution. but how many big money races were in the Midwest over the last few weeks? there is only so much money to go around. also same guys wining all the time, I found myself watching the battle for second in the late model feature as if it was for 1st place. also track officials realize that all eyes are looking at you. Saturday night after a micro heat two cars needed to be pushed the push truck drivers just sat in the infield do your jobs please. highland has all ways had a hard time with attracting the local talent to race there. Tim Manville lives in highland but races at Pevely before that Randy Korte raced at Pevely and where was Michael Kloos? yep Pevely maybe we has race fans and the promoters need to understand what class of car works the best at our track and run that class and we as yes fans go and support good racing even if is not the late models. Highland is my home town track I have spent a lot of time there I hope that I can do that in the future. by the way thank you micros and ss for a good car count and racing.

Here's an idea. Run one class where only non winners can compete. You could even pay a lesser purse but the newbies will have a chance and not have to compete with the hotshots. It would also force these one track hotshots to try another track. OMG did I write that?

Yea that was a pretty cool race when they did that for the mod guys a couple years ago at pevely

Manville might go to pevely because it is easy for him driving wise,if he likes pevely for that reason theres not much highland can do!

I think too many big shows can hurt the local show nights. Families only have so much of an entertainment budget. If it cost them double to see a special show than it does a regular night. They may just go to the special and skip a couple regular nights.

Also before local racing goes by the way side. Why not try bi-weekly racing? If all 4 immediate tracks did it there could be racing every week. 2 one week the other two the next.

Food for thought!

I just want to know what the sharpshooters do for the track? They collect the money for the food and beer................

I remember when the hornet class started at highland they used to put the feature winner in the back the following week, maybe they need to bring that back. Or maybe take the top 2 to 5 an put them in the back.

Race Tracks aren't any different than any other business. They will have to provide something, a service of some kind that other tracks don't to attract the customers. Keep in mind that race tracks have two different kinds of customers to add to the complexity. Drivers and fans!
Lets use CMS in Warrensburg as an example because they have a large car count every week and lots of butts in the stands. How do they do that?
For the drivers/teams they provide a good track, good pay out, fair rules, legit tech inspection and a smooth running show where the expectations are known and adhered too for both drivers and officials. , Personally, everyone that works there makes me feel like it's actually my pleasure to compete there by providing a warm and welcome positive attitude where my presence is genuinely appreciated.
For the fans they provide a good track, consistent rules, no favoritism, clean bathrooms, good food and show that runs quickly, smoothly without down time at a very reasonable and affordable price.
Now all I'm really saying is I've been around dirt car short track racing all my life and the tracks that provide the above do well while the tracks that lack don't do well.
Seems pretty simple to me.
I like everyone else spend money on the business/services that provide me with the best possible experience. If the promoters of a race track can't do that then it's no one else's fault but there own and just like any business, adapt or die.
