Highland Speedway kicks off 45th season with Play Day on March 26th!

HIGHLAND, IL – Highland Speedway, located on the Madison County Fairgrounds in Highland, IL, is celebrating the 45th season of racing in 2006! Highland Speedway is a 1/4-mile, semi-banked clay oval featuring Stock Car racing on Saturday nights, April through September.

The 2006 Season’s “Play Day” is Sunday, March 26. Pit gate opens at noon and Play Day Pit Passes are $10. Grandstands open at 12:30 and general admission to the grandstands is $2 for all ages. If Sunday is rained out, a make up Play Day will be held on Wednesday evening, March 29, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The season officially gets underway with the Season Opener on April 1, 2006. During 2006, all Regular Events will have the following format: Pit gates open at 3:00 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 5:00 p.m. Hot Laps are at 5:15 p.m. and Late Model qualifying is 5:30 p.m.; the racing program begins immediately after qualifying. Weekly events will feature UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Sportsman, Bombers and the Hornet class.

The 2006 Highland Speedway schedule includes several special events:
• Saturday, May 13 – The UMP Wolf Pack Challenge paying $1,000 to win for UMP Modifieds.
• Tuesday, June 20– The annual MS Race for a Cure returns featuring UMP Late Models & UMP Modifieds. This annual event is to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis and is definitely one of the best shows of the season! This is the 10th year anniversary of the MS Race for a Cure.
• Tuesday, July 4 – The UMP Summer Nationals series returns to Highland Speedway. This special show features some of the Nation’s top dirt late model drivers who will be racing for $6,000 to win.
• Monday, July 24 – The UMP Challenge of Champions makes another visit to Highland Speedway at the annual Fair Race.

NOTE: Special admission prices are in effect at all special shows listed above.

To honor the 45th year of racing at the Highland Speedway, there will be celebrations all year long. We will honor past champions in all classes.

For the second year in a row, prize money has been added to all classes for 2006. Also there is a new point system this year.
