Fans choosing one driver for all-star event

Race fans can begin voting Friday to add an entry to the May 22 Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.
As first reported Monday by ThatsRacin.com, race fans will be able to vote a driver into the all-star race from the field of entries for The Nextel Open. So, the winner of the Open and the driver with the highest vote total will advance to the all-star field.
Voting will begin Friday at noon Eastern. Fans can vote on nascar.com; foxsports.com; or by using a Nextel phone.
Fans voting from Nextel phones can do so by one of two methods: (1) Sending a text message to 4444, which will send a reply with a link to the fan voting option; or (2) Follow this sequence: Menu>>Net>> What's New>>All-Star Vote>>Vote in a Driver.
Fans attending this weekend's race at Richmond, Va., and beginning May 21 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., can also vote at The Nextel Experience. Voting will conclude following first segment of The Nextel Open.
If the Nextel Open winner also receives the fan vote, then the driver with the second highest number of votes, who finished on the lead lap of the qualifying race, will advance.
