It's official, No NHL Season

Well I guess greed got to the owners and players so no season. On a side note NASCAR took over hockeys spot as being one of the top four major sports so I guess it's not all bad. I would be mad but the 500 is this weekend and I'll forget all about wanting to see the Blues.
:D

dirtgoon I'm really mad the owners tryed to give in to the players and the players didn't go for it. I blame the players on this one. This is a sad day for sports all over. I hope the league (sp?) can recover from this.

This was going to be the Blues' year, too. They would have won it all!!! At least thats what I say every year.....

hockey is mine and jens 'racing' during the winter, and there is undoubtedly alot of blame to go around.. maybe shared equally. $$$ is the bottom line in all of this. i know time makes people 'forget' what happened, and would serve both the players and owners right, if next year(if they reach an agreement in the meantime) the fans boycotted a certain amount of games next season. that would hurt them both, and send a message to organized professional sports. art.

I am a hockey fan, but I think this is good news. Hopefully they make it where I could either 1. go to a game with some friends and get a good buzz for under $50 or 2. take a gal to a game and drink a soda and eat a burger for under $50. The way it is now I don't think you can get in and have a hot dog and soda for $50 for one person. The prices to go to a game were getting rediculous and the players aren't worth millions of dollars like they are getting.

More reason for the UHL to be excited. Major Kudos to any and all NHL players that didn't feel it "beneath them" to join a UHL team. UHL is a much better bang for you buck anyway. Go check out the Otters sometime, it's just as exciting as watching the blues!

We went when Ryan Johnson played his first game with the otters,That dude didn't lose his wheels at all. Jackman was a little off but we still won 3 zip. Paid for three people and got beers every period and got out of there for 75 bucks.

I'd think the Otters games would be a better bargin since alot of those guys are still real hungry trying to make it to the NHL. 1stbreak did you say you only got A beer every period??? I can't believe you could stretch one out that long :p

Man you are just wrong here... The NHL players wanted no salary caps, so they join a league (UHL) that has salary caps. Kind of a stupid move if your at the bargining table. and has nothing to do with playing on a team "beneath them".

Personally I think it is really funny. You would think for the livelihoods of all parties involved, they would try a little harder to make things work. It is evident regardless of all else they make much more than peanuts. I was an avid hockey fan several years back but as time continues, I am learning to dislike all of the overpaid crybabies a little more.

I Haven't Really Followed Hockey Since The Mike Keenan Fiasco. Nevertheless, I Hate It That They Players And Owners Couldn't Get It Worked Out. It Not Only Effects Those Two Parties. But A Lot Of Everyday Working Joes Also.

Hockey And Baseball(and Local Racing) Need To Get It Together As Far As Salaries(cost) Go. If Not, They're Gonna Price Themselves Right Out Of A Job(hobby)!!!!!

You'd Think They'd Follow The Lead Of The Nfl And Nba. Pay The Big Stars, But Don't Go Broke Making Millionaires Outta The Second Tier Players! Even With The Salary Structure Of The Nfl And Nba. Nobody Is Gonna Quit And Come Take My Job! They're All Doing Quite Well!

Exactly. I don't remember any striking baseball players playing in the Frontier League in '94.

But then I just wonder how many of these guys are playing in Europe or the minors here not so much to stay in shape, or for the "love of the game", or to placate fans, but because they need $ to pay the property tax that's due on all the stuff that those million dollar salaries provide.

I went to the Otters game last night and the fans were very appreciative of Jackman signing autographs after the game. Jackman and Johnson are donating their salaries to charity so I think they are playing in the UHauL because they love to play and to stay in shape. Plus living close to the Family Arena is another reason to play for the Otters. I blame both Gary Buttman and Bob 'not' Goodenogh for throwing around false claims and twisting things around such as teams loosing money. The fans are the real losers in this fiasco. At least you know the players on the Otters love the game because they sure in the hell are'nt making any money.

To quote a friend of mine who works with the Blues, "These guys were all told two to three years ago that this was going to happen, so unless you were a total idiot, they were putting away cash and don't have to worry about the truck payment."

This didn't just happen over night, everyone involved saw it coming a couple of seasons ago. In fact, according to my source, after the last agreement was signed, it was pretty much known that when renegotiation time came around, it was going to be a lockout.
