Nashville, Arkansas (05/05/17) – Jack Sullivan continued his red-hot start to 2017 on Friday night at Diamond Park Speedway. The two-time and defending COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil champion picked up the $2,000 victory in thrilling fashion.
Wendell Wallace jumped to the lead in the opening laps of the 35-lap affair from the New Vision Graphics Pole Position with fellow front-row-starter, Garrett Alberson and Jack Sullivan in tow. As the leaders stretched their advantage on the field, great two-wide battles raged throughout the field.
By lap 15 the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic as Sullivan began to reel in Wallace. One lap later the first caution would fly as Robert Baker spun in turn 4.
As the field prepared for the restart the Top 5 in the running order consisted of Wallace, Sullivan, Alberson, Hunter Rasdon, and Zach McMillan.
The second half of the race found Wallace and Sullivan dueling for the lead through lapped traffic, while Alberson and McMillan battled for the 3[sup]rd[/sup]-position. Alberson’s night took a turn for the worst with just two laps remaining, when he spun in turn 4.
The caution set up a two-lap dash to the checkers. On the ensuing restart, Wallace would bobble, which allowed Sullivan to take over the top spot from his good friend. Sullivan went on to score the win over Wallace, McMillan, Chandler Petty, and Jon Mitchell.
The win was Sullivan’s 19[sup]th[/sup] career triumph with the tour and his third of the season.
Garrett Alberson received the Henryetta Ford Hard Luck Award for spinning from the Top 5 late in the race. Joe Gorby received the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award for advancing seven spots in the finale.
Saturday night will find the tour at Gene Boyter’s Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) on Saturday night for a $2,500-to-win/$400-to-start program. Hunter Rasdon was the victor of the series lone visit to the facility in 2016. Factory Stocks, Limited Modifieds, ProMods, 4-Cylinders, and Wedge Carts will also be a part of the show. General Admission is $20 for adults with ages (15-&-under) free. High school students also receive free grandstand admission. Pit passes are $35.
