(Warrensburg, MO) Despite nearly seven inches of rain falling on the greater Warrensburg area throughout the week, Earl and Susan Walls' Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) managed to get a reprieve from the moisture long enough by week's end to host a fantastic night of racing for week number two of the CMS season. A full field of 81 drivers in the modifieds, street stocks, and b-modifieds were on hand and put on a great night of racing for the fans in the stands.

The B-modifieds kicked off the evening with Brad Smith of Belton, MO; Randy Grimmett of Lathrop, MO; and Michael King of Orrick, MO picking up the wins. Second-year driver A.J. Tice led her first-ever laps at CMS and came home with a strong third-place run in the third and final heat race. Smith and Grimmett led the 22 starters to flagman Hershel Thompson's green flag for the main event with Smith grabbing the early lead over Grimmett. Jeremy Lile, Michael King, and Tice all experienced trouble early on in the event as it took a couple of re-starts before laps were scored by official scorer Karen Darling. Brad Smith clearly had the field in check as he pulled away on several restarts to maintain his lead. Second place on back proved to be the best racing as Grimmett and Ethan Isaacs, along with Brian Ziegler and Bryan Montgomery, battled lap-after-lap inside the top five. Unfortunately, the main event was cut short due to time constraints to a 10-lap race. In the end, no one had anything for Smith as he comfortably picked up the win ahead of Grimmett, Brian Ziegler, Ethan Isaacs, Bryan Montgomery, and Jacob Ebert.

A strong field of 18 Street Stocks signed in for two heat races and a 15-lap feature with Brian Johnson of Independence, MO and Michael Mullins of Kingsville, MO winning their respective heat races. Both drivers started on the row one for the main event with Johnson gaining the early lead. After a complete restart, Johnson again stayed out front, ahead of a hard-charging Mullins and Anthony Ward in third. Last week's winner, Chad Eickleberry, battled his way to the front by lap five to make it a four-car battle. The field ran extremely close until a yellow flag flew on lap eleven and with five laps to go on the re-start, drivers once again tried to hold the low line for their spots. The street stock drivers put on a driving clinic the rest of the way doing all they could to maintain their finishing spots. Ultimately, it was Brian Johnson who finished the night off with his 17th career win at CMS. Anthony Ward and last week's winner, Chad Eickleberry crossed the line second and third. Traveler Jake Conley came home fourth, followed by Mullins, and Nic Bennett.

One of the largest weekly fields of modifieds in recent memory made their way to the speedway and competed in four heat races; all total there were 37 'mighty' modifieds on hand. Buckner driver Joshua Stephens grabbed a big win in heat race number one with front-row starting Dustin Boney of Basehor, Kansas taking heat number two. Warrensburg driver James McMillin crossed the finish line first in heat three as Concordia's Jason Thompson picked up the win in the final heat. Four cars transferred to the main event from the 10-lap b-main. Dean Wille, Jessy Willard, Jim Moody, and Ed Griggs claimed the transfers to the main event. Joshua Stephens and Dustin Boney got off to a flying start and looked to make it a two-car breakaway early in the feature event. Boney led early until Stephens made his move to get around just as Boney experienced problems and exited the race. The driver on the move early on was Jamie Ragland of Lebanon, MO. The patient driver calculated every move and picked off drivers one by one until he found himself in the lead on lap eleven. One lone caution flag flew for the a-main race and once the field went back to green-flag racing, it was all Ragland the rest of the way. Stephens maintained his growing status as one of the fiercest drivers around and held off several strong runs by Marrant and James Williams. At the finish line, Ragland claimed his first-ever feature win at CMS with Stephens in second. Defending track champion Aaron Marrant finished third, followed by McMillan, Dave Meyer, Jason Thompson, Johnny Fennewald, Tim Karrick, Daulton Greven and Iowa driver, Dennis Elliott.

Join us next Saturday at CMS for a special night at the track honoring Moms for Mother's Day. The first 50 moms to enter the stands on each side of the speedway will receive a free flower courtesy of the track and the Warrensburg Lowe's store.
