Fairmont, West Virginia (08/28/12) – It was a great weekend for Jared Hawkins and Bobby Lake Motorsports as the team knocked down back-to-back wins to push their win tally for the season to five in the team's #37 Bobby Lake Motorsports/Rocket/Custom Race Engine Super Late Model.
On Friday night the weekend opened at Elkins Raceway (Kerrens, West Virginia) with the 24th Annual RH Armstrong Memorial, which posted a $3,000 top prize for the winner of the Super Late Model division. Jared started the evening by setting the sixth fastest time in qualifications before winning the third heat race, which locked him into the dash. In the pole-sitter's dash he advanced to a second place finish to earn the second starting spot for the 52 lap finale. In the feature he jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag and never looked back on his way to the win, which marked his third straight RH Armstrong Memorial triumph. As the winner he also receives a guaranteed provisional, if he needs it, for the upcoming weekend's Black Diamond 125 at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, West Virginia). On Saturday evening the team initially traveled to Winchester Speedway (Winchester, Virginia) for a $10,000-to-win, World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model event but rain just before hot laps forced the cancellation of the event. As a result the team headed up the highway to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, Pennsylvania) for a Weekly Racing Series Event. Seventeen Super Late Models entered the event, and via preliminary action Hawkins earned the third starting spot for the 25 lap finale. On the first lap of the feature he bolted to the lead and never looked back on his way to his fifth win of 2012. The Labor Day weekend will be a busy one for the team, and will begin at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, West Virginia) with the Black Diamond weekend. On Friday night, August 31st an $8,000-to-win event will be held, which will be sanctioned by the UFO Super Late Model tour. On Saturday, September 1st the World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model tour rolls into town for the Black Diamond 125, which will see the field divided in half for a pair of $10,000-to-win features with the top ten finishers from each feature going to a $20,000-to-win bonus feature.
