Byram, Mississippi (9/2/08) – On Saturday night, Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Mississippi held the 1st Annual Jason Robbins Memorial, and when the final checkered flag flew, it was Jason Hughes from Westville, Oklahoma taking home the $5,004 check in the Franklin Paving UMP Open Wheel Modified division.

Fifty Open Wheel Modifieds signed in to do battle for the event with Jared Landers from Batesville, Arkansas setting quick time around the ¼ mile, gumbo oval. Landers would go on to win the dash, which earned him the pole position for the feature event with Cade Dillard from Manning, Louisiana starting to his outside. Landers would snag the lead at the drop of the green flag with Dillard, Ben Ledgerwood and Ricky Idom in tow. Early in the event, Jason Hughes would be the driver on the move as he advanced from his 9th starting position to challenge Landers for the lead by the race’s midway point. A few laps later, Hughes would overtake Landers for the top spot and power away from the field to take the winner’s check. Landers, Shane Hebert (Louisiana), Ricky Idom (Mississippi), and Morgan Bagley (Texas) rounded out the top five.

In the Extreme Wireless Super Late Model division, Brooks Strength used a masterful pass to take the lead from Dennis Duncan as he charged to his second feature win of the 2008 season at JMS. Duncan, Jeremy Broadus, Chris McElhenney, and Ryan Taggart rounded out the top five finishers.

The Trick Race & Hawkins Machine Shop Street Stock division provided some great racing excitement for the fans at JMS. Throughout the 2008 season this class has hosted some great battles between several different cars. On Saturday night, the great battle continued as Dave Nations, Rocky Degree, and Kevin Whittington brought the crowd to their feet as the trio dueled throughout the event for the top spot. Whittington was forced to the pits early in the event with a flat tire, but was able to rejoin the back of the pack. At the drop of the green he charged his way back to the front of the pack, and by the end of the event he had recorded a third place finish. Nations and Degree hosted a spirited battle for the lead throughout the event with Nations picking up the win over Degree. The win marked Nation’s fourth win in the last five events.

In the Home Improvement Company Limited Late Model division, Kevin Whittington picked up his first feature win of the season by holding off the challenges of Landon Frith and Jr. Williams.

The Touch of Class Body Shop Stingers saw Justin Miller take the win over Coty Hamilton, and Mitch Jenkins.
