(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) If ever there was an up-and-down weekend for a race team, the Iron Motorsports team and driver Jeep Van Wormer experienced it last weekend. Their weekend kicked off on a high note, as Jeep captured the $2,000 top prize on Friday, April 28 at the Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. After winning his heat race and rolling off fifth for the Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS) feature event, Jeep hunted down and eventually passed race leader Steve Casebolt on lap twenty-one. The Pinconning, Michigan driver held off Casebolt and the rest of the stout field for the remainder of the event to capture his first Dirt Late Model victory of the 2006 racing season!

The downside of Jeep’s weekend occurred on Saturday at the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland. Jeep broke a front end suspension piece on his Bayline Fire Protection / Globe Technologies / Services on Site #55 MasterSbilt / Cornett machine in his heat race, which sent him hard into the wall at the 1/2-mile facility. As a result, Jeep was finished for the night and did not qualify for the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature event.

“It was definitely an up-and-down weekend for us,” commented Van Wormer on Tuesday afternoon. “At Attica, we had a great car all night long and I had a lot of fun racing against (Steve) Casebolt, (Brady) Smith, and some of those other guys. I think the fans got to see a pretty good show last Friday night. Then at Hagerstown, our weekend turned pretty sour in a heartbeat. Something broke in the front end of the car and I tagged the wall pretty hard. We are still in the process of finding out what exactly broke. Overall though, it was good to get our first win of the season and hopefully that will lead to many more this year!”

The Iron Motorsports team made the decision today to stay in their home state of Michigan to compete in a pair of Dirt Late Model events this weekend. The I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan will be the track of choice for Jeep and the team this Friday, May 5. A regular show is on tap this Friday at I-96. The action then turns to the Thunderbird Race Park in Muskegon, Michigan on Saturday. A $2,000 to win special event will be held at the Wolverine State facility on May 6.
