Junction City, KY-June 4, 2010- The Indiana Late Model Series made its second visit of 2010 to Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening and Jeff Johnson of Junction City, KY would score the biggest win of his career and first ever Pro Late Model feature win by claiming the checkered flag in the $1,000 to win ILMS main event. Other feature winners for the evening included J.T. Ayers of New Haven, KY in Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds and Gerald Haynes, Jr. of Somerset, KY in D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman.

Chase McWhorther and Todd Coffman would bring the Indiana Late Model Series A-Main to the green flag, with McWhorter outdueling Coffman for the lead, followed by Jeff Johnson, Zane Powell, and Steve Godsey. Godsey would roll past Powell for fourth on lap 3, as race leader McWhorter would begin to work slower traffic two trips later. McWhorter would get into heavy traffic on lap 7, allowing Coffman to close in on the leader. McWhorter would get caught behind slower traffic on lap 8, allowing Coffman to challenge for the lead, but disaster would strike Coffman on lap 9 as he and a slower car would make contact exiting turn two, with the two cars getting hung together, with Coffman climbing up on the left front fender of the other machine until the pair rolled to a stop at the entrance to turn three, drawing the caution flag. McWhorter would bring the field back to the green flag, with Johnson, Godsey, Powell, and Jeremy Hines giving chase. Hines would grab fourth from Powell on lap 10, with Jeff Rawlings making his way past Powell for fifth one circuit later only to lose the spot back to Powell on lap 11. Meanwhile, young speedster Zak Blackwood would charge from his 15th starting position to make his way into the top five past Powell for fifth on lap 16. Back at the point, McWhorter was setting a quick pace and pulling away from Johnson a bit as the leaders again began working back markers and lapping slower traffic. With McWhorter working traffic and keeping Johnson at bay by lap 21, Hines would repeatedly challenge Godsey for third. But lap 25 would mark the turning point in the race when Billy Wooldridge looped his machine in turn three and race leader McWhorter would tangle with the race leader and stop on the track as the incident would draw the caution flag. This turn of events would put Johnson on the point, but the restart would come back when a four car tangle on the backchute involving Edgar Godsey, Rawlings, Josh Hampton, and Clarence Belcher would put the action under caution again. The next restart would also not see a full lap completed as 8th place running John Mulligan would spin his unit in turn four to draw the final caution of the race. The final restart would see Johnson drive his ride to perfection and see the checkered flag first to score the victory in the David Burchfield owned B&E Builders/Mid-State Construction/The Muffler Shop/ Speed Queen Laundry/Xtreme Style Signs and Graphics sponsored #11 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, GM604 powered machine. Ninth place starter Hines and Godsey would finish second and third respectively, while Coffman would work his way back to fourth and restarting at the rear of the field on lap 9, with Gary Yeager starting 14th and rounding out the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Blackwood, Powell, Alan Magner, Kevin Colston, and Greg Kendall. McWhorter would be top qualifier among 24 entries at 14.117 seconds and also win his heat, while Coffman and Johnson would claim the other heat victories.

J.T. Ayers would dominate the action in the 20 lap Clayton Homes UMP Modified main event to claim his second feature victory of the season at Ponderosa Speedway. Ayers would drive the Don Ayers owned After Hours Body Shop/Hagan Construction/Quick Time Turbo Systems/Buzick Construction/Ayers Auto Service/M and M Get-n-Go/ Parkway Service Center sponsored #28 Bandit Race Car, Dale Meers Race Engines powered mount to the win. Randy Turpin and Tom Curtsinger would display a great battle in the middle stages of the race for the runner-up spot, with the position finally going to Turpin, with Curtsinger taking third. Mikah Reams and Ed Cundiff would complete the top five. Ayers would make a clean sweep to the evening by also being top qualifier at 14.967 seconds and also win the heat.

The 15 lap D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman main event would go to Gerald Haynes, Jr. in dominant fashion, with Haynes, Jr. driving to the win in his Troy’s Roofing/Cornett Race Engines sponsored #27 Chevy Chevelle mount. Donnie Sullivan would nip Rick King in a photo finish for second, with Wayne Hager the final finisher in the rundown. Hager would be top qualifier at 16.143 seconds and also win the heat.
