MILLINGTON TN. Jeff Taylor picked up his first O’Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series win of the season at the Memphis Motorsports Park. Taylor slipped past Wendell Wallace after the restart on the races only caution. Taylor took a $3,000 check home with him for his efforts.

Wallace was the polesitter, with Taylor to his outside. The pair ran side by side for most of the first four laps, swapping the point back and fourth. Terry Phillips, Jerry Buck, and Ken Schrader raced behind the two leaders. Wallace finally established the point on the fifth lap, and eased out to a five carlength advantage.

The top three were nose to tail by lap seven, with Phillips right behind Taylor in the third spot. Jeff Floyd took over fifth, then slipped past Buck for the fourth spot in turn four of lap eight. Schrader recaptured fifth, getting past Buck on the next circuit.

Wallace was already starting to see slower cars by lap 10 on the tight ¼ mile oval. Wallace was following a pair of slower cars by lap 13, and in a daring move, split the pair going down the frontstretch. Wallace got about five carlengths of breathing room as Taylor got momentarily hung up behind the slower cars. Wallace was ten carlenghts in front by lap 20, but Taylor was back on his back bumper by lap 23 as the frontrunners worked the traffic.

The races only caution came out on lap 24, as Jerry Buck was turned around in turn three. Phillips raced Taylor for the second spot as the race re-started, but then Taylor was side by side with Wallace for the lead on lap 25.

Taylor got his opening in turn two, and on lap 27 squirted past Wallace taking over the top spot. Taylor eased out to a five carlength advantage by lap 28, but Wallace had caught him, and was on his back bumper again by lap 31.

The top four cars were running nose to tail, with Schrader joining the frontrunners. Taylor was starting to lap slower cars again by lap 35. Taylor cleared a couple of cars by lap 37, and sailed home with the win.

Jeff Taylor notched the 40 Lap feature win, with Wendell Wallace, Terry Phillips, Ken Schrader, and Mike Brown making up the top five. Jeff Floyd, Bill Frye, Charlie Randolph, Danny Christian, and Leslie Essary rounded out the top ten.
