Jim Kuntz Classic at I-30 Speedway this Saturday

Beebe, Arkansas (09/13/17) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil returns to action this Saturday, September 16 as it sanctions the inaugural Jim Kuntz Classic at Tracey Clay’s I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas).
Some exciting monetary additions have been made that will see racers and fans taking home bonus bucks.
“Jim Kuntz is a legend in the racing world, and during his engine building career he provided top-notch power plants to countless racers,” CCSDS CEO Chris Ellis notes. “Because of this we’ve had some former racers step up to add money to this great salute to Kuntz.”
Dewaine Hottinger from Doug’s Electrical and Jon Kirby from Kirby Specialties have stepped up to boost the purse for the 40-lap finale. The feature will now pay $3,000-to-win and $500-to-start.
The giving doesn’t stop there as the duo teamed up to donate an additional $500. This money will be divided between five lucky fans.
“What better way to salute the legacy of Jim (Kuntz) than to reward both racers and fans with money,” Ellis notes. “This is going to be a great night, and I hope that racers and fans alike will pack the place as we show Mr. Kuntz just how much we appreciate everything he’s done for our sport.”
Jim Kuntz first ventured into building racing engines in 1963. From there his both his customer and accomplishment list grew at a break-neck pace. From drag racing to circle track he built engines for just about every type of motorsports. More than 50 years after beginning his forte into engine building, Kuntz made the decision to retire at the end of the 2016 season.
The event will serve as the 18[sup]th[/sup] round of the 2017 campaign for the tour. Two-time and defending series champion Jack Sullivan continues to be the Midwest Sheet Metal Marked Man atop the series standings. With just two events remaining on the season docket it’s time for drivers to give all that they’ve got to position themselves near the top of the final series standings.
Garrett Alberson, BJ Robinson, Zach McMillan, Tanner Kellick, Kyle Beard, Robert Baker, Gavin Landers, Chandler Petty, Jon Mitchell, Brandon Wilson, David Payne, and Hunter Rasdon round out the latest series standings.
Zach McMillan holds a four-point advantage over Tanner Kellick in the Midwest Sheet Metal Rookie of the Year standings. Brandon Wilson resides in third in the battle.

Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Mod Lites will also be on the evening’s card on Saturday, September 16. Racers, please note that that for the remainder of the season, the CCSDS events will be conducted on the Hoosier 1350 tire rule on all four corners. Hoosier 40’s will also be permitted. In addition, the event scheduled for October 20-21 at Louisiana’s Chatham Motor Speedway has been removed from the series schedule.
