Burnside, KY (October 7) The driver that has probably been the most consistent finisher with the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series in 2006 would finally visit victory lane as Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY would score the $2,000 to win feature event for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series on Saturday night at Lake Cumberland Speedway, while Joey Kramer would hold on to take his second consecutive NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series Championship.

The start of the 25 lap/$2,000 to win O'Reilly Auto Parts A-Main would see Jay Mobley and Joey Kramer bring the field to the green flag, but disaster would strike for Championship contender Kramer as he would make contact with the outside retaining wall entering turn one and damage the right front suspension on his entry and his night would be finished, leaving him to watch the battle for the 2006 Championship.

The second attempted start would be a go and Jimmy Payne would jump to the lead, with Victor Lee, Jay Mobley, Kelly Warren, and Brandon Green in tow. Warren and Green would race side by side for fourth as the caution would appear on lap 3 for a spin by Scotty Kincaid in turn 4. The double-file restart would see Warren pressure Mobley for third, while Lee dogged Payne for the lead as the race entered lap 5. As Payne and Lee would slowly pull away, Mobley and Warren were locked in a side by side battle for third on lap 7, with Shon Flanery side by side with Green for fifth on the same circuit. Mobley would have third on Warren at the line on lap 8, as the pair continued to race side by side for the position, while Payne was scooting away slightly from Lee at the point.

The second caution of the event flew on lap 10 as Skylar Marlar would slow on the backchute and roll pitside. The restart would see Green benefit from the double-file restart as Green would drive past Warren and Mobley and grab the third position, with Warren fourth and Mobley fifth. Payne and Lee would battle momentarily for the lead, with Payne taking control on lap 13. Laps 14 through 18 would see Warren and Mobley continue to battle for the fourth spot, with Mobley taking the spot on lap 16, but Warren would have it back one trip later. On lap 19, Warren would pull away from Mobley for the position, while leader Payne and second place were about to roll up on slower traffic.

The final caution would fly on lap 22 as Brandon Clark would loop his machine in turn one, setting a dash to the finish. The final restart would see Lee right on Payne's rear bumper, while Green, Warren, and Mobley went at it for third. Mobley would get Warren for fourth as the front five saw the white flag and dived off into turn one. Payne would have Lee on him, but Payne would beat Lee to the checkered flag by about two car lengths to get the win in his Barren River Pest Control sponsored #6 Lightning Chassis, Frank Payne Race Engines powered entry. Lee would grab second, while Mobley would slip past Green on the final lap for third, with Warren taking fifth. The remainder of the top ten was Cale Coffey, Dustin Linville, Shon Flanery, Joe Turner, and Don Adams.

Thirty-three entries would see Don Adams nab the Racing Optics Fast Qualifier award after turning a lap of 14.254 seconds in time trials.

Four qualifying heat race events would be contested, with those wins going to Mobley, Lee, Kramer, and Payne. Adams and Bill Arnold would score B-Main victories. Series provisionals would go to Troy Teegarden and Scotty Kincaid, while Tommy Gregory would be the track provisional.
