(Warrensburg) The weather finally cooperated in Missouri this week producing a good tacky track for the hot racing action at Central Missouri Speedway for this Labor Day weekend. Joe Bradshaw from Sedalia capped off a great weekend by winning his first feature at CMS this year after a big feature win on Friday night at Osborne. Another first time winner was in the 305 Sprint class when Jerry Potter picked up his first victory of this year and since 1996. Perhaps the fan favorite finish of the night was Virgil Jeffrey with his third Limited Late Model victory at CMS this year. In the Street Stock division, we had another great run from Wayne Harper when he drove to the checkers for his sixth win of the season.

The Street Stock race started with a hard crash on the first lap when Bronson Combs lost control of his car coming out of turn two. Bryant Moyer had no place to go and hit him hard on the driver’s side. Combs had to be taken to the hospital after emergency personnel checked his injuries in the pits. Also leaving early in the race was Gary Hemme and Michael Mullins with mechanical problems. Several other cautions slowed down the pace later on, but Harper held on after Marc Cater made it interesting late in the race. Carter started in fourteenth place and worked his way up to battle for the lead before finishing in second. Josh Helm finished third and Chad Eickleberry also entered the mix early on for the lead, but Eickleberry dropped back and out of the race after several spins on the track. Nathan Himes also battled with Harper early before spinning out in front of Cater on lap 11.

The 305 Sprint feature proved to be a memorable event for Jerry Potter. Potter led the race from the start with Kenny Potter pushing hard from behind. This was Jerry Potter’s first race since 1996 and it proved to be a great finish for him. It was also good to see the young Josh Fisher back in his number 86 Sprint after racing at CMS earlier this year. Michael Brown and Kenny Potter continue in a close battle for the points lead.

The Mighty Modifieds started with Dave Meyer at the front of the pack along with Joe Bradshaw. Meyer had the first lap lead but Bradshaw worked high around him with Jimmy Dowell close behind. Bradshaw didn’t take long to establish and maintain his lead by the driving the high side and stayed out front for the rest of the night. After working just behind Bradshaw most of the race, Meyer was not as lucky. He went over the back of turn three on lap thirteen when Gary Blackburn dove low to take second. Dowell also lost it over turn two and had to depart after leaving the track surface.

Most of the night Blackburn and Dennis Walrath were working their way up from back in the pack on the low side while Bradshaw stayed on his line on the high side with Meyer. Blackburn also challenged Bradshaw for the lead late in the race after coming up from a seventh place start, but had to head to the pits shortly after with some mechanical problems. More impressive was Walrath starting in twelfth place to finish second after Blackburn departed. Another great run from the middle of the pack was from Terry Schultz after starting in fourteenth place to finish in third using the high side most of the race. Charlie Ebbert also stayed up front for the entire race battling for his best finish of the year in fourth place.
