April 25, 2005 -- It's the kind of week that late model racing fans talk about all winter, four straight nights of wheel-banging, fender-rubbing excitement. In just two weeks, the Northern Allstars Late Models will tow into the toughest tracks in the Hoosier state for the 2005 Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek.

This year's schedule kicks off with Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon on Wednesday, May 11. The second event will be Thursday, May 12, at Lawrenceburg Speedway, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The next night, Friday, May 13, the tour heads to Bloomington Speedway. Speedweek will close with the grand finale at the Jackson County Fairgrounds' Brownstown Speedway on Saturday, May 14.

After weather challenges in the first two years, last year's Dirt Late Model Speedweek finally proved just how competitive this series can be. Fans will remember Don O'Neal grabbing the early Speedweek point lead with a win in the rain at Haubstadt's Tri-State Speedway, and third at North Vernon. Then, with back-to-back second place finishes and a win at Bloomington, Randy Korte claimed the top spot heading into the last event. But lurking within striking distance was the winner of the second event, at Twin Cities Raceway, Dennis Erb. While Korte suffered through his worst race of the series, Erb notched his second win to join O'Neal and Kevin Claycomb as a champion of Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek.

On May 11, Erb will return to North Vernon's Twin Cities Raceway Park as the defending Dirt Late Model Speedweek Champion, where he will take on the Northern Allstars, including 2004 champion Brian Shirley, who was third in last year's Speedweek points. Shirley had the dubious distinction of receiving the hard luck award in NALMS' 2005 opening event at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway.

FINAL 2004 Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek Points: 1. Dennis Erb 224, 2. Randy Korte 217, 3. Brian Shirley 197, 4. Steve Barnett and Rohn Moon 186 (tie), 6. Wes Steidinger 184, 7. Steve Sheppard Jr. 153, 8. Zach Carney 152, 9. Shawn Negangard and Tim Prince (tie) 151, 11. Brad Barrow and Kevin Claycomb (tie) 145, 13. Shannon Reed 133, 14. Jammie Wilson 131, 15. Frankie Coomer 121, 16 Don O'Neal 115, 17. Mark Voigt 111, 18. Jerry Bowersock 103

This year's Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek 30-lap features pay $2,500 to win and $300 to start. The purse for each program will be $12,225. The point fund, sponsored by UMP and Hoosier Tires, will award $2,000 to the Speedweek champion, with second through fifth earning $1,000, $600, $300 and $200, a nightly total of $4,100. Additionally, Oval Craft will award the Speedweek champion a new level 2 driver's seat, valued over $380.

General admission will be $15 and pit passes $25 at all four facilities. Our new website www.latemodelspeedweek.com provides more information and links to all of the tracks' websites. Complete results and updated Speedweek points will be posted there as soon as possible after each event.
