CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-"Championship Night" by Budweiser was indeed a champion's fun-fest at the historic K-C Raceway. Amid the fanfare and drama of crowning 2010 champions, the AMRA Road Warrior Challenge and three other competitive features highlighted the action. Zanesville, Ohio's Anthony Kincaid brought home the Road Warrior Challenge win, Delmas Conley crowned the late models, Jimmy Nier mastered the 410 Goodyear sprints, and Jamie Adams hammered the Hobby Stock win. The latter three also earned season championships, while Brian Whiteman won his first modified crown.
The AMRA Road Warrior Challenge feature was a star-studded event featuring a large portion of the best open-wheel chauffer's in the business. Kevin Morehouse, last year's Classic winner, sat on the outside pole beside Jeremy Rayburn. Morehouse jumped ahead, but was quickly challenged by Kincaid with newly crowned champ Brian Whiteman in tow.
Morehouse and Kincaid continued to battle, but soon Kincaid would have the upper hand and the reversal of fortune now put Morehouse in the catbird seat. Early contenders Kenny Johnson and Rick Hensely, the 2009 K-C champ, got in an early accident that eliminated Johnson. Meanwhile, the caution aided a hard-charging Jesse Hartman. Jess Hartman was the hard charger in a maddening 13th to 4th run. Hartman was involved in a bad accident in his heat and won the consolation to earn a transfer into the feature.
Meanwhile, Kincaid zoomed on to the victory over Morehouse and a consistent Jess Wisecarver. Wisecarver started fifth and was right there at the finish, but couldn't advance of the proverbial ladder. Whiteman stave off Hartman for many laps, but at the end Hartman won out for fourth. Jason Montgomery and Rick Venham had good runs from deep in the pack, while Rayburn slipped to 7th.
Rounding out the top ten were Anthony Kincaid, Kevin Morehouse, Jess Wisecraver, Jess Hartman, Brian Whiteman, Jason Montgomery, Jeremy Rayburn, Rick Venham, Robert Garnes, and Lonnie Kidd.
In the Goodyear 410 sprint car main Jimmy Nier claimed both the win and the season championship in a flag-to-flag win aboard the B&J Welding #00. Nier had the horsepower to jump out to a huge lead on the starts, and won hands-down at the finish. Laps 13-17 brought some drama to the event as Sheldon Haudenschild ran Nier down in lapped traffic and came within five car lengths of the leader. Nier, however, mastered the traffic and zoomed on to the big win. The win earned near his second consecutive K-C title and third overall.
Going into the event, Nick Naber had a shot at the title. Naber, a former K-C champ, joined Keith Baxter as the only two probable drivers to unseat Nier. Naber briefly had second, but after an early joust with the high-flying 'Lil Haud" ran third for much of the race. Jimmy Stinson and Bryce Dickson both picked up positions in the end when Naber was whistle for passing before the cone.
Baxter ended up sixth in a good run after dueling much of the race with a hard-charging Josh Davis and Wisconsin Invader Tommy Sexton. Both Sexton and Adam Strausser stymied their runs with jaunts over the backchute, but both came back for top tens. Mike Linder was the hard charger of the race with a run from 18th to 9th. Dave Dickson came from 20th to 15th in a good run.
Flip victims were fast timer Brad Haudenschild and Ed Neumeister, both of which emerged ok. Rounding out the top ten were Jimmy Nier, Sheldon Haudenschild, Jimmy Stinson, Bryce Dickson, Nick Naber, Keith Baxter, Josh Davis, Tommy Sexton, Mike Linder, and Adam Strausser.
Delmas Conley and Audie Swartz paced the field to the start of the AMRA Late Model main. Conley got the initial jump and led the distance in a true Hall of Fame effort. Actually two Hall of Famers glittered the line-up as Rick Aukland, the Badlands Bandit earned a top ten. Jason Montgomery sat out most of the Late Model season, but was back in full swing Saturday. Montgomery earned a podium finish after a long battle with Swartz for position and Greggie Oliver, fresh off a Skyline win brought home second. Andy Bond had another good run ahead of Aukland and Northern invader Ryan Markham. Billy Gullion came back from a lap one spin to a top ten between Mark Frazier and Jason Flory.
Jason Montgomery was the hard charger in an 8th to 3rd run. Rounding out the top ten were Delmas Conley, Greggie Oliver, Jason Montgomery, Audie Swartz, Andy Bond, Rick Aukland, Ryan Markham, Mark Frazier, Billy Gullion, and Jason Flory.
The Hobby Stock main saw the Dominator Jamie Adams bring home the giant win. Adams was again the cream of the crop putting the infamous #42 in victory lane for the tenth time this season. In the points race much of the competition experienced bad luck, and with the win Adams sealed his own fate no matter what the competition finished. Jeff Sheets had a great run ahead of young flyer Evan Seitz. Seitz and Joe Williams had a spirited battled the duration of the race, while Joe Buskirk recovered from an early sprint to finish in the top ten. Tim Glassburn was hard charger in a 21st to 7th place run.
Rounding out the top ten were Jamie Adams, Jeff Sheets, Evan Seitz, Joe Williams, Joe Buskirk, Richie Trego, Tim Glassburn, Butch Eblin, Brandon Mather, Roger Mossbarger
K-C will run the Halloween Trick-or-Treat All-Star Late Model 30 on October 30 along with Modifieds and Hobby Stocks.
