Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, made his long distance traveling pay off with a big win Sunday night at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway. With well over 10 inches of rain in the last few days falling on the speedway track promoter Earl Walls briefed the drivers prior to the night’s competition that the track would be rough but that the crew did all they could to prepare the speedway for the big race, which was delayed from Saturday night. Over 100 cars were on hand in the four divisions competing in a total of 21 races during the night. The races were brought to a halt in one of the b-main modified qualifiers when driver Kevin Sloan went over the embankment off of turns three and four. Sloan was transported to a local hospital for further examination but an update was not available on the driver’s condition at press time; however, he was alert and conscious upon leaving the speedway. Only 24 cars made the feature event lineup with the top three from the six heat races and top three from the b-mains making up the field. With over 45 modifieds on hand it was a tough night for all just to make the main event. Joe Walker led the field early on until United States Modified Touring Series regular Shryock grabbed the point and never looked back. Dave Meyer tried to challenge several times on some of the late race restarts but was unable to get by Shryock. In the end Shryock took the checkered flag ahead of Meyer, Tim Karrick, Chad Lyle, Jim Roach and Mark Dotson. Heat race winners were Walker, Johnny Fennewald, Steve Bowers, Shryock, Alan Deatherage, and Dennis Walrath. The b-main events were won by Tim Karrick and Tom Charles.
