Parents and kids, mark your calendars for this Saturday, August 16th as CMS hosts its annual Kid’s Night festivities at the track. All kids 12 years of age and younger have the opportunity to compete in age-division races for boys and girls on the actual race track itself during the intermission-time break. Each division winner will go home with a medallion for his or her winning efforts. All children in attendance 12 and under will receive a free “goodie bag” stuffed full of various items that include hero autograph driver cards, various school supplies, racing-related small toys, candy & treats, toothbrushes and toothpaste donated by drivers, fans, and track personnel as well as various coupons donated by Warrensburg-area restaurants and retailers. Children do not have to compete in the foot races to receive one of the goodie bags. In addition to all of the festivities, each child 12 and under will receive a free hot dog and drink courtesy of the speedway for attending. KDKD FM 95.3 Radio and PAR Electric, two of the track’s long-time sponsors are presenting Kid’s Night this year.

Counting this weekend’s scheduled races for the ‘Mighty’ Modifieds, ULMA Late Models, Street Stocks, and B-Modifieds, only four nights of competition remain on the schedule this season. For modified drivers, this means there are only two more opportunities to get their second regular weekly race start in prior to the big $3,000-to-Win special event on Saturday, August 30th. Drivers that have competed at least twice in a regular weekly race program at CMS prior to the 30th race do not have to pay the $100 entry fee. This is the final big-money race of the year at the track.

Having a look at the championship point standings in each division, three-time feature winner and 2006 track champion Aaron Marrant continues to lead the way in the modified division. Tim Karrick of Basehor, Kansas is still mathematically in the hunt and holds down second with Sedalia driver Terry Schultz maintaining third also mathematically still alive. Five-time feature winner Jon Binning of Warrensburg sits atop the ULMA Late Model standings ahead of a tie for second place between Randy Ainsworth of Excelsior Springs and David Angell of Holden. Nic Bennett of Oak Grove holds down the top spot for the street stocks with Fulton driver Tammy Korff in hot pursuit in second and Roger Stone of Kansas City in third. Scotty Martin’s dominant season has allowed him to control the B-mods the entire year; the Independence driver leads Bobby Raybourn of Odessa and Jeremy Lile of Higginsville.

Pit gates swing open Saturday evening at 4:30 with grandstand gates opening at 5:00. Hot laps begin at 7:00 with qualifying heat-race action hitting the track at 7:30.
