Lebanon,Mo.-Modifieds were the highlight this past weekend at the LebanonMidwaySpeedway with a $6,000 to win show and a star-studded field took to the clay oval. When it was all said and done,Chad Kinder claimed the 6,000 to win prize, but it wasn't easy for the young gun.
The start of this 50 lapper would see Sean Williams grab the early lead and start to pull away from the pack as Shannon Frank,Jamie Ragland, and bob Kerbs fought early, but the yellow quickly displayed for Bob Test as he slowed. The field restarted as Test quickly pulled-in to the pits and rejoined the field at the raer.On the restart, again Williams jumped out to the lead followed by Frank,Ragland, and Kerbs.Williams was setting a fast pace while back in the pack,Kinder was working from his 15th starting spot,Justin Boney was coming from 22nd and Rusty Dukes was moving forward from 20th.On lap 23,Kinder had moved all the way into the 2nd place spot as another deep field driver Eric Hudson was moving from 16th.The caution waved on lap 28 just as Kinder had overtook Williams, but Williams was moved back to the front spot.Veteran Chad Lyle who started 9th was starting his charge to the front as Jimmy Dowell's night ended.Justin Boney had moved all the way into the top 10,but headed to the pits and returned at the end of the field. On the restart,Kinder moved up stairs to grab the lead, but Williams shot back on the bottom to overtake Kinder again. On lap 29,Kinder made the pass to get the lead as Chad Lyle had closed in on Williams and the battle for second was on.On lap 31,Curt Rackers looped it bringing out the caution as Lyle and Williams were in a heated battle for 2nd place.Rackers returned to the rear of the field and the green was displayed,Williams made a low move pass on leader Kinder, but Kinder was working the top groove perfect. On lap 38,alan Deatherage looped it on the front stretch as Tony Jackson Jr locked it up to avoid the spinning Deatherage as those 2 plus Rusty Dukes were going 3 wide for position. The corner worker said that Jackson didn't make contact and was allowed his position back.On the restart,Kinder started to check-out as Lyle was putting on pressure to Williams as Ragland and Hudson rounded out the top 5.On lap 45,Lyle made the move into second, but this night belonged to kinder as he topped the field followed by Lyle,Williams,Ragland, and Hudson as 16 of the 26 car field finished on the lead lap.
"Friday night in the heat,we broke a tie-rod and lower A arm.We just made it in the Qualifying feature and I found the top groove to work real good."said Kinder
"We started back about 14 Friday Night and moved all the way to 3rd,when I lost it in turn 1.O had only 5 laps to make in in the show and just barely made the final transfer spot at the finish. The crew worked all day long on the car,and tonight Mr Armstrong had the track perfect for his race. You could run high and low both. This was a tough race to make, but it was fun also.I was surprised because this was a quality field of cars that came in this weekend and some very good drivers that run close by."
In other action,Eric Todd grabbed the early lead and never looked back in the SprintCar feature on Sat Night and in Friday Nights action,Robert White took advantage of leader Dusty Rhoades problems and grabbed a very narrow win in the Bomber class.
Next Weekend Sept 23-24 the MidwaySpeedway Fall Brawl with Friday Nights action including qualifying heats and pole dashes for the Superstocks,Winged Sprints,Modifieds,FactoryStocks,Bombers and Mini-stocks along with a 100 lap enduro event paying 1500 to the winner.
Sat Night Sept 24th will be all the Features and the Fastrak LateModels will be competing also.Friday Racing at 8 while Sat will be 7:30 for the season ender on the Midway
