CARTERSVILLE, GA – A Labor Day Weekend double-header is up next for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division. Rounds 19 and 20 of the 2014 season will be held on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL and on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will make its second appearance of the season at both tracks. The Arkadelphia Speedway race on Saturday night will be a 50-lap $2,500-to-win event, and the Magnolia Motor Speedway race will be a 40-lap $2,000-to-win race.

Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings by 214 points over his closest challenger, Rookie of the Year point leader Chris Noah of Rainbow City, AL. Johnson is looking for his second straight $20,000 Nesmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship.

Two of Johnson’s seven wins this season have come at both Arkadelphia Speedway and Magnolia Motor Speedway. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee is the all-time winningest driver in the ten-year history of the series with 24 victories, and on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway, Johnson will be looking to take the lead in another series career category.

On Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway, Johnson will try to break the record of wins in a single season by looking for his eighth win. Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN set the record of seven wins in a single season in 2006.

In the first 18 races of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season, Johnson has accumulated 1,544 points with seven wins, ten top five finishes, 15 top ten finishes and two Fast Qualifier Awards. Johnson has completed 779 of a possible 780 laps run this season, he has led the most laps with 199, and he is also the Hard Charger point leader.

Noah has clinched the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Award and is currently second in the point standings with 1,330 points. In 18 races, Noah has turned in five top five finishes, ten top ten finishes and one Fast Qualifier Award.

In preparation for the Arkadelphia Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series race, Noah took the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win at “The Ark” last Saturday night. Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN is third in standings with 1,158 points after seven top five finishes and ten top ten finishes in 15 races.

Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS leads a tight group of drivers battling for the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings. Blount has competed in all 18 races this season, is coming off his best finish of the season with a fifth-place effort at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS on August 9, and has 1,056 points.

Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 1,038 points after five top five finishes, nine top ten finishes, and one Fast Qualifying Award in 13 races. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is sixth in the standings with 1,016 points with one win and nine top ten finishes in 14 races.

Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS has been on a roll in the last couple of races with his two best finishes of his NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series career with a fourth-place finish on August 8 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS and a second-place on August 9 at Greenville Speedway. That has put Minga in the seventh spot of the standings with 970 points.

Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL has worked his way up to the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 914 points after turning in one win, four top five finishes, five top ten finishes and one Fast Qualifier Award in 13 races. Walker Arthur of Forest, VA is ninth with 838 points, and Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL is tenth with 804 points.

Several of the top NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers at both Arkadelphia Speedway and Magnolia Motor Speedway are expected to give the traveling NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series drivers a run for the big money this weekend.

Heath Minor of Ralph, AL was won six NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events this season at Arkadelphia Speedway. Other Arkadelphia Speedway front runners expected include Jon Biles of Centerville, AL, Cale Finley of Athens, AL, Lee Burdett of Bessemer, AL, and Billy Franklin of Calera, AL.

The Mag always has a tough contingent of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series regulars that include Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS, Kyle Shaw of Millport, AL, Hunter Carroll of Columbus, MS, Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL, Shay Knight of Columbus, MS, Jamey Boland of Cuba, AL, and Chance Inman of Bruce, MS.

On Saturday at Arkadelphia Speedway, the pit gate opens at 3 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6 p.m. with racing scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Arkadelphia Speedway is located at 1546 County Road 6, Bremen, AL 35033.
