Lincoln, Ill. (May 8) – The Illini Midgets made their first appearance of 2005 at Lincoln Speedway. Petersburg, Ill. veteran Mike Hess piloted one of LaVerne Spencer’s UMARA cars to the race win in the 20-lap affair. Lamont Critchett edged Wingless Sprint regular Joe Knippel for second, while Danny Drogemueller and David Budres had top five efforts. Korey Weyent and Knippel cashed in Heat Race victories.

Steve Lance, Jr. of Cuba, IL led the entire distance in the 20-lap Late Model feature. Shane Allen pressured Lance, Jr. for the lead, but was unable to find a way by and settled for the runner-up position. Chad Pratt, Kenny Hampson, and Rick Haley completed the top five. Lance, Jr. and Chris Dick picked up Heat Race wins.

Christopher Massey’s dominance of the 600cc Outlaw Mini Sprint division looked to be in jeopardy during their 15-lap Main. Nathan Charron got the jump at the start and led the opening fourteen and a half laps before one mistake in lapped traffic cost the youngster. Massey was able to slip by and win it by a car-length and add to his all-time leading win total. The victory was Massey’s eighth. Charron was relegated to second, while Austin Jones, Robbie Starkey, and Ryan Jones ended the event in the top five. Charron and Massey won the Heats.

The Classic Modified feature saw Ron Wick and Larry Drake trade the top spot a handful of times throughout the 15-lap feature. Drake held the upper hand and entered victory circle over Wick, Justin Buchholz, Al Claeys and Eric Close. Drake and Tom Schnabel were victorious in Heat Race action.

Next up for Lincoln, Outlaw Wingless Sprint Cars return with UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Wild Things filling the under card. Hot Laps begin at 4pm with racing to follow at 5pm. General Admission is $10 for adults and Free for those 10 and under.
