Mother Nature won the finale of the night topping the 58 cars on hand and she never even took a qualifying lap!

Shannon Babb of Mowequa, IL. topped the 58 cars on hand in qualifying with a lap around the LaSalle Speedway at 12.68 seconds.

The dash was won by Darrel Lanigan who has been rocket fast since his win in the ELDORA DREAM. Following Lanigan to set the first three rows of the A-Main were Frank Heckenast, Jim Partipillo, Shannon Babb, Terry English and Jeep Van Wormer. Wendell Wallace, Billy Moyer and Lil' John Provenzano rounded
out the field and would start the pole of the first three heat races.

The first heat was won by Wallace going away over Russ Sheffler and Jay Fiene. Rounding the field were Steve Hillard, T.J. Markham, Brian McCabe, Robert Pohlman, Rob Toland and Billy Weistart.

The second heat was captured by Duke Whiseant over Billy Drake and Shawn Toczek. The remainder, who would find themselves consi bound were Kevin Weaver, Tim Routson, Billy Moyer, Tony Izzo, Jr., Mike Glynn, Jim Letriax, #8??, MikeFannin and Mike Kingma.

The third heat was won by The Tall Cool One, Bob Pierce over a fast challenger Skip Martin and Darren Miller. The remainder of the field was Provenzano, Steve Casebolt, Eddie Schickel, Tom Markham, Jason Feger, Bill Trueblood, Sherri Heckenast and Chris Carlson.

The fourth heat had just pulled onto the track when the rains set in calling an abrupt end to the nights activities.

Tomorrow night will see the 2003 UMP Summer Nationals Road Tour move onto the Crown Point, Indiana Speedway. For race information or questions the track can be reached by calling 219-662-4007.

The evenings finale will be a 40 lap $6,000 to win event.

See ya in Victory Lane!

More info from SMASH

I talked with Bob Memmer tonight after the rainout and he stated that points will be awarded for qualifying as usual and also for the heat races that were completed. The points will be counted toward UMP Summer Nationals points, and YES the race will be rescheduled for some date in the future, BUT; it will not be a part of the Summer Nationals.

UMP has a standing policy of no RAIN DATES on Summer Nationals that count toward the overall Summer National points, with the exception of Owatonna, MN. which has a raindate the day after the originally scheduled date and the finale at Oakshade which would get a raindate. Other than those 2 events, raindates are not counted toward the summer nationals when the race is rescheduled.

Hope this helps answer the questions that were raised concerning the portion of the show that was completed tonight.

ALSO: An addendum to the above post: Jim Partipillo failed to go to the scales after the dash as is mandatory, therefore; he was disqualified from his 3rd place finish in the dash. UMP officials were unable to correct the line-up situation in time for the first heat, so even though Wendell Wallace won the heat, he was already in the feature as the 6th place finisher in the dash. So, this would mean some changes to the line-up when the race is rescheduled. I would assume this means that Steve Hillard will be in the A-Main since he was the fourth place finisher in the heat Wendell won. This will need some clarification from UMP prior to the raindate rescheduled makeup of this event.
