Fredricksburg, OH--- Dirt Late Model star Dave Wirt, of Fredricksburg, OH, a 28 year racing veteran, has announced a new slate of sponsors and his plans for the upcoming 2003 racing season. Wirt has signed up all his 2002 sponsors for another season in addition to signing two new sponsors. Wirt is also in negotiations with two other sponsors who are contemplating joining the #991 dirt Late Model team.

The returning sponsors include Roto-Rooter, Stone Man Supply, Dunn Bros. Auto Corp., Santmyer Oil Company, Tri-M Block, Combustion Cycles, Fought Signs, Lake Auto Care, Wirt Towing, Curly’s Body Shop, Mark Bacchus Auctioneer and Troyer’s Old Fashioned Beef Jerky. Wirt also announced the addition of two new sponsors.

“Extreme Brothers, they do car accessories and graphics and stereos and all that, have signed on for this season,” said Wirt. “It’s a fairly new business in Wooster, Ohio. We also got the Guerne Heights Drive In again. Adam Wenger took that over from his dad, Randy, and he approached us and we’re tickled to have them back with us. We’re also in negotiations with a couple other companies and we should be signing them up and announcing who they are real soon. As for the rest, I didn’t lose anybody from last year and that helps! Every little bit helps.”

As for Wirt’s 2003 racing plans, he is shooting for the Wayne County Speedway track championship. After racing for nearly 30 years without chasing points, Wirt settled in for a championship run in 2002, ending up tied for second in Wayne County Speedway season points. Wirt has his eye on the top spot this year.

“I’m coming back to try and win a championship there,” commented Wirt, referring to WCS. “I’d like to win a championship before we give it up. Right now we’ve been running so good I just have to try and win races. We had a good year last year. And I’ve good crew and they work hard and I have a supportive family.”

“I was real happy with the way last year went. We didn’t win the championship but we were there every week. And the people I race with I really enjoy, guys like Mark Osburn, Chet Alexander, we just had a great time with that championship run and whoever finished first, second or third, we didn’t really care. We all wanted to win it, don’t get me wrong, but we all had a good time last year.”

In addition to WCS’ weekly program and sanctioned events, which will include two appearances by MACS and one appearance by the Xtreme Dirt Car Series, Wirt plans on visiting other facilities, such as Raceway 7 in Conneaut, as well as a variety of sanctioned events in the Ohio region, including many of the July scheduled Xtreme Dirt Car Series ‘Ohio Late Model Speedweek’ events.

Wirt will once again be in a Rocket Chassis/Draime Racing Engines combination and is currently busy getting all his ducks in a row as the season fast approaches. He’s ready, confident, and anxious to get going.

“I’m still riding high and I’m looking forward to it,” commented Wirt. “I’m trying to keep focused and will try to keep the car running up front. I won three features last year and my goal is to win four or five features and win that championship and run good.”
