Free Pit Pass, No Entry Fees For Drivers At 5th Running of “Shiverfest”

Donnellson, Iowa – Drivers can leave their wallet in their pocket when they check in for the fifth running of “Shiverfest” at the Lee County Speedway on Saturday, October 23rd. Each racecar competing in the event will receive one free pit pass courtesy of RaceMart in Memphis, Missouri, Blue Boyz Racing Supply of Macomb, Illinois, R. A. Benson Motorsports of Galesburg, Illinois, and LCS promoters Terry and Jenni Hoenig. Plus, for the second year in a row there will be no entry fees charged in each of the five divisions. The popular autumn event features fun for the whole family and will once again benefit the dialysis patients of the Southeast Renal Dialysis units in Mt. Pleasant, Burlington and Keokuk.

Formerly the season finale for the NKF Heartland Tour for a Cure, the 2004 version of “Shiverfest” will continue its tradition of raising funds to help out those individuals and families battling kidney disease in the area. Over $7,000 has been raised for the Southeast Renal Dialysis units through the first four times the event has been held and many of the same sponsors, as well as some new ones, have signed on again this year.

Five divisions of cars will be in action during “Shiverfest” with Modifieds gunning for a $500 top prize, Stock Cars will pay $300-to-win, and Hobby Stocks will look for a $250 first-place check. Two-driver Cruisers and the four cylinder Wild Things will also be in action with $100 and $50 respectively going to the winners. “To celebrate the fifth running of this event we wanted to try to beat our previous car count record and felt that the free pit pass offer would give us a good chance at doing that,” commented event spokesman Jeff Broeg. “This would not be possible without the support of RaceMart, Blue Boyz Racing Supply, R. A. Benson Motorsports and the promoters at the Lee County Speedway. I am excited to see how the drivers respond.”

Gates will open at 1:00 p.m. and early arriving fans will have the opportunity to take a Hayrack Ride through the pit area to watch crews and drivers prepare for the racing action ahead. The pill draw will close and the driver’s meeting will be held at 4:00 p.m. Kids in costume will be admitted for one dollar and, new this year, will be able to call on their favorite drivers to Trick-or-Treat on the infield immediately following Hot Laps that will get underway at 4:15. The first race is scheduled to take the green at 5:30 p.m.
