Doyline, LA (April 9, 2005) – Lee Davis stormed by Kenny Merchant on lap 32 and pulled away to a convincing O’Reilly SUPR Late Model victory at Champion Park Speedway. Davis started fifth and had his work cut out for himself as Merchant had taken control of the race from the drop of the green and the race would go caution free. Davis was undeterred and he reeled Merchant in and passed him on the high side to take the lead. The victory was Davis’ fourth career win on the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model tour.

Rob Litton was the B&K Underground Top Qualifier and started on the pole but it was Merchant who got the jump on the start from the inside of row 2. Merchant was back in his Warrior this weekend and he looked strong as he set the pace up front but it was Davis who would get quicker as the race progressed and he was able to run down Merchant to take the win. Davis won by a full straightaway.

Kenny Merchant held on for second and in the process he gained valuable championship points as current leader David Ashley had trouble ending up 21st. Merchant cut Ashley’s lead from 157 points to just 65 points now separating first and second.

Keith Craft had a strong run charging from 12th to finish third and he was followed by Ray Moore and Rob Litton. Trey Beene was sixth with the Creel Brothers Hard Charger Bubba Mullins finishing seventh after starting 20th. Ricky Ingalls, Jon Mitchell and Jeff Chanler rounded out the top ten.

30 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand. Lee Davis, Ray Moore, Rob Litton and Kenny Merchant claimed the heat race wins with Trey Beene and Patrick Daniel taking the last chance victories.
