Let Freedom Ring ?

"Greetings & Salutations"
I'm lucky enough to have two racing Website Forums to visit, Stlracing.com to catch up on the UMP area, which I am originally from and now out in Western, MO, where I am stationed at Whiteman AFB, racinboys.com, which covers all the tracks out here. I'm a dirt-track fan through and through and enjoy reading results and posts that have a meaning of some sort and enjoy every chance I get to read some of the frequent posters' opinions. Lately, I'm very troubled by what I've been reading on both Websites...

-people threatening each other
-bashing, bashing, bashing
-name calling
-people encouraging violence
-drivers and fans bashing promoters
-new users getting on here and going crazy

...I could go on and on with the negatives it seems, but I'm sure you all get the point. I know I sound like a broken record when I say this, but Stl people, I'm telling you, some of you don't know or realize just how darn good you all have it in your area. If you don't believe me, move away and let reality sink in. Stl has some of the best tracks in the US, some of the best drivers in any number of classes and definitely the most passionate fans.

I don't want to see the bad fans ruin it for everyone, especially how the bad apples have made the 4m nothing but the National Enquirer of racing Websites!

I'm sure you all have seen Jimmy D's posts lately, it's sad when he has to post more warnings to his users than he gets to post results and news for all of us! Just stop and think before you post hatred, bashing, etc. I've been guilty, as many of you have, about posting when emotions are running high. But I'd like to think that just like aging, the more posts one has, the wiser they become--sort of like a vintage wine ya know.

Instead of bashing or complaining and not thinking that perhaps there are young minds out there who are our future, reading your posts, or people who may be on the brink, or worse yet, could be deeply affected by what you say. At least think things through, maybe substitute what you would like to be a cuss word with an alternate word, look at it from the opposite point of view, or just ask yourself if what you're about to post really has a point to it.

Heck, I'm no angel by any means, been thrown out of Highland, used to argue with the officials, boo drivers, harrass other fans, etc., but again, since have become the wiser and now try to post thoughtfully.

Hope all of you had a great 4th and enjoyed your freedom to celebrate. Just remember, this is one of the few countries you could get away with half the stuff that gets written on the sites. This is the greatest country, there are a few bad apples that need to be put in place, we're not perfect by any means, but the racin' crowd are better people than what we've been reading lately. Do you let Freedom ring, or do you let your freedom of speech toll the bell first?

Enjoy the races, whatever type they may be. Say thanks to the promoters, drivers, officials and fans around you once in awhile, they'll appreciate it!

This was an EXCELLENT write up!!! Thanks.....you put it well.
I wish we could all get along.
If we are a true fan or a driver of racing, then tempers are going to go high. We just need to learn to control it better.
I am not angel by no means! With the job I hold, I have to really watch what I say and ESPECIALLY what I do. Maybe we should all try to get along. I myself will!
Thanks samIam!

Thanks Sam. I know that I've been less than a friend to many recently. I've already been trying to be more sensative and put more thought into my post's before clicking the post button. I hope more people will read your message and take it to heart. I know that I will.

Q, sad part is, they won't because of the title I chose of the thread. If I could, I'd change it. The "Highland Officials" post is a perfect example of the type of posting I'm referring too, I don't even know Mr. Depew, all I do know is, he promotes two tracks for people to attend in the Stl area and you read stuff like what is on that thread, it's just sad really. We have a promoter out here that tried a big 3,000-to-win modified show this weekend and he has been getting chewed up over the race ever since the drop of the checkered flag. Admittedly there were some questionable calls and such surrounding the race, but only a few people had any kind of thanks for this guy putting on a show for us fans. The rest? Well they just bashed and complained. The funny thing is, they'll be right back at the track the following weekend. You gotta admire the passion of the racing fan, but sometimes it's over the top!
