Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Heads to the Midwest this Weekend for Two Big Shows

WAYCROSS, GA (July 9, 2014) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, coming off four exciting races in front of record spectator crowds last week, will head back to the Midwest this weekend for a pair of single day shows. The premier national tour for dirt late models will make its second visit of the year in Pontoon Beach, IL this Friday, July 11th for the 10th Annual “Battle at the Beach 50” at Tri-City Speedway. The event is also co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA. There will be a complete show with Hot-Laps, Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races and B-Mains, followed by the 50-Lap feature event - paying $10,000 to win. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY is the defending race winner. Support classes running in conjunction with the LOLMDS at Tri-City Speedway include Modifieds and Pro Crate Late Models. The LOLMDS will then travel to Wheatland, MO for the second time in 2014 for the 8th Annual “CMH Diamond Nationals” at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, July 12th. The event at Lucas Oil Speedway is also co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA and will include a complete show with Hot-Laps, Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and a 50-lap feature event, with the winner receiving $10,000 and a specialDiamond Ring from Lucas Oil Speedway. John Blankenship won last year’s “Diamond Nationals” and will be looking to capture another victory at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks”. Support classes running in conjunction with the LOLMDS at Lucas Oil Speedway includes the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds. Both events on Friday and Saturday will be filmed by the Lucas Oil Production Studios to air on several TV networks later this year. Don O’Neal, will lead the LOLMDS stars into this big weekend of racing with a slim 10 point lead in the series championship point standings over the hottest driver in the country right now, Jimmy Owens. Scott Bloomquist, coming off a big win at Portsmouth Raceway Park on July 4th, sits in third in the chase for the LOLMDS National Championship, followed by Earl Pearson Jr., Eddie Carrier Jr., Steve Francis, John Blankenship, Jared Landers, Dennis Erb Jr., and Jason Hughes rounds out the top ten in the series championship point standings.

Jason Hughes holds a slim lead over Jason Papich in the chase for the 2014 Dunn-Benson Rookie of the Year title. Both rookie drivers continue to improve each week, as they compete at new tracks for the first time this year on the series.
