BEAR LAKE, PA – Feb. 16, 2010 – Chub Frank plans to press the reset button on his 2010 season.

After opening the 32nd competitive campaign of his career last week with a frustrating visit to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., the popular driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ is looking toward better days ahead.

“For us, Florida (in February) is usually really good or really bad,” Frank said at the conclusion of the 39th annual DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at the half-mile oval outside Daytona Beach. “Unfortunately, it’s been really bad for us this year. We’ve tried some things on the car that didn’t work, so we’ll just forget about this week and move on.”

Frank, 48, of Bear Lake, Pa., entered four dirt Late Model events during the DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH – two run under DIRTcar’s UMP sanction, and two World of Outlaws Late Model Series program. Two other scheduled UMP shows (on Feb. 9 and 12) were rained out during a week that featured unseasonably cold temperatures for the Sunshine State.

While Frank failed to qualify for the week’s two UMP A-Mains while experimenting with setups (he finished in a B-Main on Feb. 8 and fourth in a B-Main on Feb. 10), he appeared to be headed in the right direction in the season-opening WoO LMS events. He qualified through a heat race both nights (a pair of third-place finishes after timing 14th-fastest on Feb. 11 and 46th-fastest on Feb. 13), giving him mid-pack starting spots for the headliners.

But Frank struggled to get rolling in the features with his Custom-powered Rocket Chassis Chevrolet Impala SS-bodied No. 1*, which carries sponsorship from Corry Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, Crown Drilling, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, All-Star Performance, Slavic Corporation, Custom Race Engines, GW Performance, Integra Shocks and Hoosier Tire. He made no headway in either 50-lapper, finishing one lap down in both events – an 18th-place result on Feb. 11 and 17th-place finish on Feb. 13.

Frank left Volusia in a tie for 16th in the WoO LMS points standings, 64 points behind leader Brady Smith. He hopes to get back on track – and headed back toward the top of the points battle – when he returns to WoO LMS action on March 19 at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway and March 20 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga.
