SUNSET HILLS, Mo. – Sunset Hills native Brad Loyet corralled two different awards during the 51st annual USAC “Night of Champions” Friday evening in downtown Indianapolis.

Loyet, currently competing in a six-race Midget racing swing in New Zealand, was honored with the USAC National Midget Car Series “Most Improved Driver” award for his efforts during the 2006 season. He also garnered the inaugural USAC National “Most Popular Driver” award, as voted by online voters.

Loyet, who finished 17th in the 2005 USAC National Midget Car Series point standings, jumped 10 spots to land seventh in the 2006 standings. He earned a career-best second at Concord Motorsports Park in North Carolina after leading the first 47 laps of the contest.

Loyet also edged Silver Crown “Most Improved Driver” Aaron Pierce for the “Most Popular Driver” honors in National competition. The award honored three drivers who earned the most votes from an online poll on the USAC website, which ran for 21 days.

Loyet’s father and Loyet Motorsports car owner Joe Loyet was on hand to accept the awards in place of his son.

The 19-year-old will look to improve again on the seventh-place finish in USAC National Midget Car Series competition Feb. 10 in the season opener at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz.
