MILLSTADT, Ill. (March 30, 2008) – Brad Loyet only led two laps during the two-race “DuQuoin Winter Nationals” in O’Reilly POWRi National Midget Car Series presented by Lucas Oil competition, but they were the only ones that counted in terms of finishing position.

On Saturday at the Southern Indoor Center at DuQuoin, Ill., Loyet put his No. 5 Loyet Motorsports Spike Esslinger Ford in front of Daniel Adler on the 30th and final circuit of the “Dean King Memorial.” Loyet won the drag race between the two by 0.176 seconds at the flagstand after making his winning pass coming out of Turn 4. He did so in front of a standing-room-only crowd on the temporary sixth-mile dirt oval.

Adler had led the entire race until Loyet – who won the other “Winter Nationals” race in January with a last-lap pass over Tim Siner – charged to the front. He kept on Adler’s tail tank for much of the 13-minute, 30-lap race, which was only hampered by two caution periods.

“Awesome,” Loyet said after the race. “I love running this place. We got a good run on him (Adler) coming out of that last corner and I wasn’t going to let up. We’ve won here so many times before and know exactly how to win. That’s what he came to do, and we did it. The car ran phenomenally and we can’t wait to get back for the start of the points-paying season.”

Adler came home second, ahead of Brent Beauchamp, Dave Camfield Jr. and Hud Cone. Loyet won $3,000 for the race victory.

The race also marked the first race for Ryan Pace since 2006. Pace was injured in a Sprint car event at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana. He was involved in the first of two incidents, which brought out the yellow flag, as the native Californian spun midway through the race. He continued on to finish 15th.

Zach Daum and Blake Fitzpatrick also collided on Lap 19 but returned to action. All 20 starters finished on the lead lap. Twenty-nine cars competed for feature starting positions.

Loyet, Camfield, Cone and Korey Weyant also won heat races, while open-wheel veteran Bobby East won the B-Main.

The points-paying portion of the POWRi season kicks off April 25 at Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill.

Brady takes the Bacon for the Dean King Memorial

Brady Bacon stood the tallest among 81 entrants in the Micro-Sprint race, winning the 25-lapper by 1.587 seconds over Chad Kendall.

The Tulsa, Okla. native got past Jason Ormsdy in Turn 4 on Lap 4 and never looked back, leading by a couple of car lengths the rest of the way and topping the 22-car field in a race that saw only four caution periods. Bacon also took home $1,500 for the win.

Ormsdy finished third, while Jarett Cathey and Todd Kirkman rounded out the top five. Ormsdy and Kendall also won heat races, as did Shane Thomas, Ryan Criswell, Jake Palmisano, Stephanie Mockler, Jason Cooper, Ryan Frantz, Brad Greer and Max Pozsgai. Austin Laskey and Nic Harris won the two C-Mains while Kirkman and Jeremy Camp won the B-Mains.
