Lucas Oil Acquires The NARA DirtCar Racing Series, Retains Mike Swims and Boosts Winner’s Circle Program

Corona, CA (April 12, 2005) - Lucas Oil has acquired the ownership of the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series based in Lexington Kentucky. The North American Racing Association (NARA) which had signed Lucas Oil as the title sponsor for 2005 series will now be operated by I-10 Race Promotions and title the series the "Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series". Increased prize money for competitors and additions to the management team are the beginning of what promises to be an exciting tour for national, regional and local dirt late model teams.

“We have been in negotiations about acquiring the racing series since we came on board as the title sponsor late last year. We reached an agreement this past week and we felt like it was the right time to make the announcement. Lucas Oil sees this acquisition as a tremendous opportunity not only for our company but for everyone involved in the sport”, stated Bob Patison the Executive Vice President of Lucas Oil.

Patison went on to say, "Lucas Oil is excited about building a professional dirt late model race series. Not only do we want to utilize it to market our products and establish a huge presence in the sport, but we will work to build a strong television package and help bring additional sponsorships to the series and the race teams that follow it".

Under this acquisition the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will continue to operate as scheduled for the 2005 season. All driver points will still carry on as they are listed and the schedule will remain the same with a few more dates added to bring the tour to 30-35 events for 2005. Starting with Brownstown this weekend, the new “Winner’s Circle” plan that rewards the top 10 in points has been increased to pay $500 per position at each race which will total $150,000 for the next 30 events. As a bonus for the next 3 races, a loyalty program will pay $300 to any driver outside of the top 10, back to 35th position in points, that has attempted to qualify at every Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar event in 2005. The year end points fund including the winners circle and loyalty programs will total over $300,000 in 2005. The year end points champion will receive $30,000, with 10th place paying $10,000.

Also former UDTRA/Havatampa president Mike Swims will be joining the new management team to assist with the future planning and development of the series. Swims brings over 25 years of experience that includes presiding over the longest running sponsor/series relationship in Dirt Racing.

“When Bob Patison called and asked me to help out with this project it was easy to say yes. I had a great relationship with Lucas Oil during my tenure with UDTRA. Forrest Lucas, his family, and employees are quality people. My goal is to duplicate the success we had with the Havatampa Series so that they can be as proud of this program as we were of Havatampa,” said Swims.

"Our plan this year is to put in place all the tools and man power we feel we need to position this series for strong steady growth during the remainder of this season, 2006 and beyond. In addition to Mike Swims being a consultant for the new organization, Spencer Wilson will still be the race director and point of contact. Rick Schwallie will continue to be the events coordinator and photographer while James Essex will stay on to handle announcing and public relations duties. We will also be adding Greg Scheidecker as special events manager,” stated Bob Patison.

"To be associated with Lucas Oil in this capacity will be exciting for me and to have Mike Swims on board will be beneficial to everyone. Forrest Lucas and Bob Patison are tremendous people to work with and can provide the resources to allow the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt series to achieve it’s full potential. I personally feel with their increased commitment to motorsports, the growth of the dirt late model industry will be advanced in a big way," stated Spencer Wilson.

With the acquisition of the Dirt Late Model touring series, Lucas Oil has continued to build on its commitment to the sport of dirt late model racing. Not only will Lucas Oil own and operate a touring series for 2005, Lucas Oil has also purchased the Wheatland Raceway in Wheatland Missouri. The new Lucas Oil Speedway is being renovated with numerous improvements to make it one of the finest dirt track facilities in the country and host some big dirt late model events and special events in the near future. Lucas Oil has also recently announced their title sponsorship of the Knoxville Late Model Nationals to be held at the famous Knoxville Raceway Sept.29th, 30th & Oct 1st. This event is considered to be one of the marquee dirt late model events in the country and with the television package for this event will provide tremendous exposure and publicity for Lucas Oil and the competitors.
