Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Comes to 34 Raceway and La Salle Speedway with New Points Leader

CORONA, CA (May 19, 2010) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to the Midwest this Friday and Saturday with a pair of $10,000 to win events. On Friday Night, May 21st the series for the first time will visit 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA and on Saturday Night, May 22nd the LOLMDS comes to La Salle Speedway in La Salle, IL for an the Annual Spring Shootout.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be making its first ever appearance at 34 Raceway on Friday Night. The event at the Jeff and Amy Laue promoted facility will mark the 55th different track the LOLMDS has visited. The Friday night event at 34 Raceway has a rain date scheduled for Sunday Night May 23rd after the Saturday Night's trip to La Salle which will mark the seventh time the series has come to La Salle Speedway. There have been seven different winners in the seven previous visits to the Joey Izzo promoted/Kerrianne Izzo managed facility with Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI, Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA, Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL, Scott Bloomquist,, Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY, Jimmy Owens and Tim McCreadie of Watertown, NY all having entered Lucas Oil victory lane at La Salle without a repeat winner among them.

Both nights will see a complete show for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, Wiles Drive Shafts, AFCO Racing Products, Allstar Performance and SuperFlow Heat Races, Hawk Performance Brake Pads and Performance Rod and Custom B-Mains followed by the $10,000 to win/$700 to start main events.

After last weekend's event at Wythe Raceway in Virginia the series has a new points leader as Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN has taken over the top spot in the championship points standings from reigning series champion, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN. Owens won his third straight series event this past Saturday Night at Wythe and this Friday Night at 34 Raceway he will try to make series history by winning his fourth consecutive race.

Owens, who finished second to Bloomquist in last year's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings now leads Bloomquist by 30 points. Bloomquist had led the points since the end of April of last year. Both drivers have been in Lucas Oil victory lane three times already in 2010 and are among the seven different winners in the first eleven races this year. The series championship again this year will pay $75,000 to win.

Four-time series champion, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL coming off of a runner-up finish to Owens at Wythe is third in points followed by Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN and Chris Wall of Holden, LA. Wall currently leads the Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" point's chase.

The rest of the top ten heading to Iowa an Illinois this weekend are Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY.

Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN is eleventh in points followed by Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville IL, John Blankenship of Williamson, WV, Will Vaught of Crane, MO and Jason Feger of Bloomington, IL.

The remaining driver sin the top twenty in points are Bub McCool of Vicksburg, MS, Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY, Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI, Mike Collins of Council Bluffs, IA and Eric Jacobsen of Seacliffe Beach, CA.

Trailing Wall in the Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" race are Wells, Vaught and Isenberg. The 2010 top rookie will receive $10,000 and second place will pay $4,500 courtesy of Sweet Manufacturing.

In the Sunoco Race Fuels "Road to Wheatland" that concludes with the $30,000 to win 18th Annual DART "Show-Me 100" on Friday and Saturday, May 28th and 29th at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO there have been twenty drivers who have maintained perfect attendance.

The tire rule will be the same at both tracks; American Racer SD44, SD48, MD53 and MD56, Hoosier 1300, 1350, 1600, LM20 LM40 and WRS-2. There will be NO crate tires allowed at either event.
