POWERS TOPS STELLAR MODIFIED FIELD

Malden Speedway

April 22, 05

Robert Powers of Campbell dominated an excellent field of Modifieds at the Malden Speedway Friday night. Along with Powers, Billy James picked up his second checkered flag of the year in Late Models. Tony Anglin won in Hobby Stock. Kyle Berry topped the Street Stock class. Scott Crites won in E-Mods and the team of Chris Kelley and Brandon Moore returned to the Cruiser victory lane.

Robert Powers withstood an early challenge from Robby Arnold and led all 20 laps of the Modified feature. Powers had built a 4 second lead by lap 16 when a red flag condition hit the track. Jerry Jackson went off the end of the track in turn one and flipped his car. Fortunately Jackson walked away from the wreck. Powers pulled away from the field on the restart to take his first win of the season at Malden. Bart Richardson and Arnold had a tough battle for second, with Richardson taking the position. Mike Francis took fourth and Todd Clifford grabbed fifth. Tony Anglin moved up from the last starting position to take sixth. Heat winners were Powers, Arnold, Shane Stephens, and Richardson. Tim Cater won the B-Main.
