Exciting racing returned to the Malden Speedway following two weeks of inclement weather. A late 4:00 p.m. rain shower threatened this week's program, but the hard work of the ground crew made it possible to get the show in.

Bryan Maynard of Paducah Kentucky picked up his first win at the Malden Speedway, moving up from the third row to take the victory. Kenny Rumble and Mike Hammerle put on an early duel for the lead with Rumble winning that skirmish. On lap 7, Maynard dove under Rumble for the lead coming out of turn four, but Rumble did not give way so easily. The pair swapped the lead back and forth through lap nine before Maynard grabbed it for good. Maynard built a modest cushion and held it through lapped traffic to take the win.
Rumble held off Hammerle for second. Bronson Berry edged Jeff Moss in a good battle for fourth.

Heat winners were Scott Riggs, Rumble, and Danny Jolly. Todd Hall maintains a comfortable 67-point margin over Steve Karnes in the season standings.

Jeff Cone put on an extraordinary display in winning the Modified Feature.
Cone started sixth and by lap 2 had already taken the lead in the race. On a lap 6 caution flag, Cone was ruled to have stopped on the track and was relegated to the rear of the field. Then the race was on. Cone moved through the field, often passing two cars at once through the corners and was on leader Tony Anglin's bumper by lap 14. One lap later, Cone dove low out of turn two and led the pack to the finish line. Impressive show. On lap 16, Larry Hull won a duel with Anglin to take second. Jeremy Conner held off late charging Bart Richardson for fourth.

Heat winners were Robert Powers, Chris Hall, and Greg King. Despite a 9th place finish, Ronnie Vernon maintains his points lead by 35 over Robby Arnold and Claudie Cook in the season's standings.
