Mother Nature did her best to spoil the action at Quincy Raceways Tuesday night but a mighty effort by Promoter Bob Scott and the track crew overcame the wet and muddy conditions to put on a great show. Nascar Winston Cup Drivers, Kenny Schrader and Kenny Wallace were both scheduled to race in the Modified’s and UMP Late Models but a traffic accident on the way to Quincy kept Schrader’s Late Model in the hauler for the evening’s events but the Cup Stars were able to compete in the Modifieds with Wallace doubling up with a drive in the #51 Late Model of Jody Wood. As we understand it, Schrader’s rig was involved in an accident near St. Louis with his hauler driver sustaining a broken wrist. No one else was injured in the mishap and the rest of the crew and drivers arrived in Quincy in time to compete in the nights festivities.

Veteran late model driver, Ed Dixon looked like he would continue his domination of UMP events at Quincy by taking the checkered flags in both his heat and dash. Dixon jumped out to the early lead in the 25 lap main event with Mark Burgtorf in hot pursuit in the second spot. Dixon maintained a comfortable margin until the sixteenth lap when mechanical difficulties forced him to the infield for the duration of the event. Burgtorf took over the top spot while driving his IMCA SPEC Motored Rayburn and kept a comfortable margin over Denny Woodworth’s UMP mount to the checkered flag. Woodworth settled for second with Mike Hamerlie in third, Gary Webb in fourth and Johnny Johnson in fifth. Kenny Wallace took his UMP Late model to an eleventh place finish in the 20 car field after starting the main event in the eighteenth starting slot. Burgtorf and Terry Schlipman were the other heat race winners.

Kenny Schrader looked like he may be the man to beat in the Modified division as he took the win in the first heat race but the draw redraw format was a bad omen for the veteran Winston Cup driver as he had to start the main event deep in the field. Brandon Brown jumped out into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 20 lap main event and held off Michael Long and Henry Delonjay until a broken fan belt ended his run at the top spot. Delonjay took over on the eleventh lap and took the win with Mark Van Winkle in tow for second, Vance Wilson in third, Ryan Meyer in fourth, Kenny Wallace in fifth and Kenny Schrader in sixth. Meyer and Long were the heat race winners.

Larry Powell grabbed the feature event win in the Bomber Main with Eddie Dieker in second, Billy Genenbacher in third, Gary Lewis in fourth and Jeff Delonjay in fifth. Todd Reichert and and Trevor Webster were the heat race winners.
